That episode was focused on small beliefs, such as the black cat crossing your path. Unfortunately, since the letter to Princess Celestia was a little Catholic-sounding'ish, some stupid atheists decided to start a heated argument over its true message, and then it was set on fire. Though it had no reason to such ruckus: seen as there's no "religion" or that taboo about religions in Equestria, it sounded merely like "Believe in whatever you want". But freedom of speech and beliefs in Earth is far more complex than it sounds, but sadly people take it lightly as they take most cartoons with intelligent messages... xP
The whole "there's a hidden religious message" thing is quite stupid. Some people just look for things that aren't there just to stir up trouble. But I wonder, what was Lauren Fausts reaction, if any, to all that?
This is actually one of my favorite episodes, between the Derpy appearance, Twilight getting an anvil dropped on her head, and Pinkies general goofiness. It's the episode that made me start keeping a 'Door vs Everyone" count, since so many of the cast seems to end up on the wrong side of a door throughout the season. The only time I thought of anything relating to religion was in the letter Twilight sent to Princess Celestia at the end. Even then, I thought it was only the choice of words that made me think of it, not that the writers actually intended for people to take away a religious message. Instead of interpreting it in a positive way, some people chose to make a big deal out of it as stated before, and now it's labeled 'controversial'. I think it stinks, because I love the episode.
I like the episode a lot too. Lots of classic slapstick comedy that reminded me a of classic Looney Tune gags. Not to mention Pinkie's "Twitcha twitch, twitcha twitch!" and all those adorable expressions she made throughout. I would have never even noticed the awkward letter at the end had I not witnessed arguments about it everywhere I went. I don't care so much about the controversy, the most important part of that episode was the last 10 seconds.
I can't stand it when people derive controversy from such menial things. It's a show aimed at children, and I don't think Lauren Faust is a religious zealot hell bent on subliminally converting children. I mean, I'm an atheist (well, agnostic, but I just say atheist), and I found no problem with anything this episode portrayed. As Freud was supposed to have said, 'Somtimes, a cigar is just a cigar'. Not everything has a hidden meaning, especially My Little Pony. On a lighter note, Pinkie was so cute in this episode.

I felt bad for Twilight. I don't know how an anvil and a piano could be air lifted by Pegasi or why they let Ditzy Doo actually try to hold the items inside the cart, but poor Twilight.....Zacora's "curse" must have kicked in
Anyone else notice that they switch off, when mentioning twitchy tail, from something's gonna fall to something's gonna fall from the sky? Wasn't it originally something's gonna fall, but not necessarily from the sky?

It may have been a territory thing. They stepped in his territory, he chases them. That's how I is it.
For hugs. Obviously. Well actually, that explains a lot! A hydra doesn't have any limbs spare his head so when he was lunging forward to eat/kill them, he was actually just lonely and looking for a hug just like the manticore was!
