Depends on the place. There'd be no way to enforce gun control out here in rural middle Tennessee. Also depends on the sort of firearms. Handguns are far more of a public menace than rifles and shotguns, generally. Smaller, easily concealable weapons are what we ought to be trying to crack down on in more urban areas. I think it goes without saying that half of what they sell at gun shows and such ought to be illegal. The military-grade stuff they sell at those are simply frightening. @ Echoax: Of course you can't completely stop anyone from getting their hands on some heat if they want it bad enough, but such regulations usually help to reduce the number of incidents involving firearms when they are instituted right. Of course, it also depends on the level of demand for a product. It is, of course, common knowledge that prohibition essentially created organized crime in America due to it creating thriving black markets throughout the nation. It is probably a safe bet that even Americans don't like their guns nearly as much as they like their booze, however.
http://new.hulu.com/watch/207598 This. Watch this. And I think that Americans can own handguns and hunting guns. We don't need MP5s and SPASs. It's outrageous. I'm actually thinking about learning to hunt next summer.
I guess the truth is I don't like guns. I don't mind other people having them for protection and whatnot, but I will probably never own one. I don't like having that kind of power in my hand. I like beebee guns, paintball guns, and those little plastic one's that shoot those flying discs. Guns always fall into the wrong hands. Even if guns were made illegal, the criminals would have them and good people would not.
The Aurora Dark Knight premiere shooting in Colorado was heavily exploited for NRA's agenda. But really, who can blame them? I'm fairly pacifistic, but I don't mind that people out there own weapons. It's a last resort defense. For life, your fists can get you through most situations. Basically: Friday (the first one). Ice Cube pulls a gun, but decides to just beat the bully with his fists like his father taught him, instead of go to jail for killing him with a gun. I think our gun control should be stricter. They're really not hard to find if you know where to look...
How would the mass shooting help the NRA? Anyways, the media tried to make a big deal over him being found with 'a thousand rounds of ammo', you want to what that is to me and other gun-lovers? A day on the range. What they should have focused on was the grenades and other explosives in his house, now THAT is plain dangerous right there, and it also shows how even if you can't technically own it, you can still get ahold of it.
The fact of the matter is, if no one is allowed to own guns, you won't need one to protect yourself either. The fact that they allow guns for self-defense in America only shows how lazy they are about gun control in general. There's also the fact that most people don't understand you should only use a gun against a gun. A burglar with a baseball bat doesn't really justify the use of bullets.
If someone is threatening your life, then yes I do believe in self-defense at any extent. Texas even has a law in place called the 'Castle Defense' law I believe that if someone is trespassing on your property and they refuse to leave or are endangering you/loved ones/property, you may use any force to remove them from your premise. And a baseball bat can be just as dangerous as a gun, one good swing and your skull is smashed, your brain is mush, and you are dead.
Because people who are commiting the crime of assault care about it being legal to own guns. FOR SURE. DEFINATELY - - Auto Merge - - Example: In Swizerland, all male citizens are required to own a gun, as they are part of the militia. You would think there would be lots of gun crime? Guess again. It is much safer to make everyone have to have guns than to make people have to not have guns.
It has very little to do with being civilized and more to do with people shooting back. And everyone having trained with guns and having passed an examination on the use of guns at least once in the past year. Who knew being shot back at could deter criminals?
Well, again, i live in Belgium. Even police officers here aren't allowed to use their guns until the culprit does. In fact, their guns aren't even loaded so even IF you somehow manage to disarm a cop, there won't be any bullets in it. They only load their guns when they need them. That's how prudish we are on the use of guns around here.

I'm glad so many people have posted on this. It's a great way to learn new things. Like the stuff about Belgium and Switzerland.
…*facepalm* You're joking right? Trying to use Micheal Moore 'documentaries' to support your arguement is like trying to back up saying that the world is flat with a globe. Try using something a little more…rational. Moore manipulates and edits what people in his documentaries just to be able to villify them. He's as bad as any American politician. And one thing people seem to forget is that the U.S. crime rate is going down.
I'm not entirely sure what goes on in the cities, but here in Britain, I think that you can only carry a gun with a license. I'm not certain though. As for my opinion on them, I'd prefer it if they didn't exist, but some people deserve to be shot. Stricter gun control would be nice but some Americans would get butthurt.
Say guns are banned. Criminals sure don't care about laws. Meanwhile, citizens that do obey the law won't have no guns. wat do
