I just shot my first gun today! Living in Chicago the gun laws are pretty hefty, but I go to school in Wyoming which basically has zero gun laws. I must say guns are very fun to use, but I do believe there should be a little more regulation on who can get/use guns.

I think our gun laws should be extremely strict. Because, if someone absolutely wants to murder someone, they don't need a gun. If people want to own just to have one for safety in their house or car, then I doubt they're going to suddenly go on a shooting spree.

But I also agree a baseball bat is just as good for self defense. The problem is that not everyone has bats. Some have guns, some have nothing. :\

Even if the police were to right away come to my aid, I don't think a killer is going to wait five minutes politely while the police arrive to save me.

Taking away cop's guns is also a terrible idea. On 28 February 1997, two men heavily armed with AK-47s tried to heist the Bank of America in North Hollywood. The police arrived, but had mere pistols, and were outgunned by the criminals. Heck, they couldn't even hit the two guys, as they were wearing bulletproof vests. After a 44-minute firefight SWAT finally showed up to finish the two guys, after 18 others had already been shot.

People can try and say "well if it were illegal, those guys wouldn't have the guns" but I say that's a load of crock. Alcohol sure got around after it was made illegal, and the same thing will happen with guns. All you would be doing is expanding the black market.

And don't forget, the armor they were wearing is also illegal for civilians.

I actually think the Cop 'bashing' and gun rights are actually intertwined. You need to think about how they are, though.

I think it's a great area of discussion.

As much as I have a distaste for police, those feelings don't primarily come from police brutality, since that kinda thing occurs uncommonly.

I'm an Arkansan as well! I'M NOT ALONE! xD I honestly believe that we should remain with the right to bear arms. It's like the government coming into your house and saying, "Oh, that could potentially be a threat to society as we know it so we're going to confiscate it."
No amount of control on gun sales will stop the murder of innocent people using guns. It's kind of like world peace, in a way. It is illogical, idealistic (more so than the people trying to keep the 2nd amendment) and overall fantasy.

Look at Texas, we have some of the most lax gun control laws in the nation and yet our gun crimes at very low compared at a per capita basis, despite being the second most populace state in the nation.

I don't think 2 shots that doesn't injure anyone qualifies as a 'mass shooting'. Anyways, I would like to say a favorite quote of mine: "Censorship is like saying a man cannot have a steak because a baby can't chew it." -Mark Twain. In this case, the gun is the steak, the man the average, law-abiding civilian, and the baby is the crazies who shoot up theaters and schools. Also, I would like to say word for word what the 2nd Amendment says:

"A well regualted militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I suggest that RoyalSheild adds this to the original post.

I have an interesting story on military weapons with my family. My dad once directed traffic with a LAW rocket launcher that he got from my late grandfather in Vietnam.
