I think everybody should be allowed to carry guns. Hand guns, automatic rifles, bazookas, mounted turrets, you name it. However, they aren't allowed to have any ammunition.

Shootings are tragic because people die, unexpected has little to do with it. You can expect soldiers to die on the battlefield, but it's still sad.

I'm all for the 2nd Amendment and the right to own firearms. Actually, I believe the gun control laws most states on the east coast have are far too strict.

Most crimes are not committed by guns that were obtained legally, by people that have passed background checks and have no criminal history.

So even if we ban all guns, that will only take away guns from law-abiding citizens. Criminals will still find a way to get a hold of them, like illegal drug users still find ways to get their hands on dope.

The problem with trying to just outright ban guns in every state in the Nation, aside from the mass riots that would result in some places, is that America has a thriving system of black markets that primarily peddle firearms. It also doesn't help that we're situated next to a corrupt, crime-ridden society like Mexico where drugs and firearms are smuggled over every day.

Guns are as fundamentally American as Apple Pie. They're not going anywhere.

Apple pie is British. Just sayin'

But you do all bring up good points. It's too late to take guns away from America. Even if you were to remove them or have stricter gun control, criminals would just find ways to get round it.

Again, that's possibly British, depending on what kind of cobbler.

This is getting slightly off topic...

I want a gun to protect the people I care about, not shoot people.

And that my friends, is why the second amendment is good.

This guy called Dave came into our school and said when you carry a weapon, you arm your attacker. Although it doesn't really matter in your case because the attacker would already have a gun.

How does possessing a firearm arm your attacker? I do not see logicz.

He was talking about knives because knife crime is the official sport of East London.

Although he said that talking about killing someone is one thing, but doing it is a completely different thing. If you were to hesitate, the attacker could easily use that to his/her advantage.

I wonder how many people mourn the loss of some soldiers on the battlefield compared to the loss of some people getting shot in the street unexpectedly.

I can understand mourning if it was someone you knew and cared about that was killed, but why the whole nation should mourn some folks that got caught up in a shooting is beyond me. I worded that oddly, it can still be considered tragic. Just not on the scale it's blown up to be by the media.

You've got to remember that each victim is an invidual person: a parent, a child, a sibling, a friend, a partner. So while it may not bother some of us, it will definitely bother other people who are closer to them. I guess the whole nation mourns to show their sympathy. After all, they wouldn't like it if their friend died. Instead of "3 people died", think of it as "3 lives were ended" or "3 families were devastated".

Although the media do have a tendency to blow many things out of proportion.

I hold the Second Amendment dear to heart. I take honest and pure joy out of having my own little way of wasting my own time and money. I do shoot for sport, and by sport I don't mean the needless killing of an animal just to take a "trophy" from it. At least eat your prey people =,=. I mean sport as in paper targets and putting myself to a challenge. I use it as a way to relieve stress from my life and help myself train to survive. I don't live in some crazy secure area. There is a whole heck of allot of crime in my city and its all violent, So I take refuge in my right to self defense. If some crazy riot goes on in my city and people start getting picked off, I will know that I have the means to take care of myself and those closest to me.

Gun control in the US would work if it was proper gun control. You could prevent more crime if you let the pot heads out and actually made the violent offenders stay in for more than a few years. Have active background and psychological test (We don't need crazies with guns), and take the time to teach the public about guns, I'd say that there would be a better understanding of guns and allot less gun violence. and primarily allot less violent crime. No one is going to try and mug you if they know that there is a high chance that you and a large percentage of others around you can fight back.

    But that's just my stance.

Exactly. And as a whole, I'm very impressed with this post. I had no idea it would grow this big. I've seen some very intelligent arguments both for and against. Thank you, all of you.
