Fair enough. Are you okay with shipping in general or do you just feel that this particular ship doesn't make sense. Come to think of it, I don't actively ship them, I've just accepted it seeing as you find it everywhere.
Technically they're not ships. Ships are relationships between fictional characters (doesn't have to be sexual). I'm not really sure what Fluttershy/Tree and Scootaloo/Chicken comes under though.
Oh, didn't understand that. And the Fluttershy/tree things comes from when Fluttershy said she wished she could be a tree and Scootaloo can't really fly like a chicken.
Also, Applebloom called Scootaloo a chicken. I guess that those kind of things are just general fanon stuff.
Unless a cartoon or anime is on Adult Swim or any other channel then you would never see a lesbian/ gay couple in a children's cartoon.
I think a long long time back some artist said they are likely best friends. - - Auto Merge - - Actually, about that, though there was potential to explain it away with odd/magical things that were going on in the episode and it was well hidden: littles petshop had two of male dog minor characters very clearly acting like they were a couple on a valentines episode. That said one of the males looks a little female so unless you knew the show well you may not have realized if you saw it. Additionally one of the writers on Adventure Time ships Marceline and Bubblegum, so they hinted at it and then pulled back a bit after complaints, but still hint a little here and there afterwards. In the comics they apparently go more strongly since most kids or people who weren't fans enough to know that this is a thing wouldn't be reading the comics. Also Jake (the dog in Adventure time) makes jokes sometimes that would make it sound like he likes guys if you took them seriously. That said they sound like he's just kidding.. and he does have a girlfriend that he had puppies with. Additionally, though minor enough that they didn't get complaints, the gladiator ghosts in the episode "Morituri te Salutamus" were said by a writer/artist/character-designer to all be homosexual: it's actually on the wiki page "According to Andy Ristaino, all the Gladiator Ghosts are homosexual. It can be noted that one of the ghosts calls the one he killed his love." that said, though not adult swim, I'm not sure if you were counting Adventure time when you said that given just how much the show is willing to do.. and given the true premise of the show involves a world that is the result of horrid mutations after a nuclear war that destroyed humanity (not kidding, if you didn't know this look it up, they are even really blatent about it at some points later on). ;p Some 'kids' shows do mention things vaguely. I wouldn't expect MLP to be one that does though, partly because they like to have very strong characters that are defined by their interests/motivation and not their romantic relations to begin with. They keep romance to a minimum, and even characters who do get involved in it occasionally (like Rarity) arestrong enough to realize when something isn't a good situation for them and keep their priorities strait (not just blindly get pushed around because of it). Here is the thing from Littlest Petshop: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c250/MethidMan/Tootsie-SecretCupet_zps4d48c7e9.png
You do make a good point but I get a feeling that the Lyra and Bon Bon shipping will just be a fanon thing regardless.
I agree to that. Hence that last bit where I mentioned about MLP on romance in general. Also I mentioned briefly above the automerge, though I couldn't find evidence now, that I thought I remembered some background artist even saying that they put the two together in scenes because the colors look nice next to each other and it's likely the case that they are best friends.
Now that canon same-sex couples in a kids' show are a thing that can happen, I can't help but wonder if it will happen again. The Legend Korra was rather groundbreaking in its portrayal of the titular character as a bisexual woman, and the relationship was remarkably well received. Now that the precedent has been set, a show like MLP, with its message of friendship and acceptance, seems like as good a show as any to continue the trend.
That would be a nice nod to the adult fandom but since the original target audience of MLP FiM is little girls they would have to be very subtle at it, I mean they kind of hinted at it in Rainbow Rocks with the human versions of Lyra and Bon Bon but you know there's still no real evidence in the actual show.
I like this shipping only because I love Lyra, but I don't really get the sense of that. OK, they're usually together, but I prefer a couple like Octascratch (musicxmusic) or OctaviaxLyra (classical musiczxclassical music). (OctaviaxLyra is just an headcanon of mine). Anyway, in Rainbow Rocks they were totally together
