so i came on EP today and i saw that new rules were enforced. my thoughts before i even attempted to read were "*sigh* changing the rules again cause of stupid trolls" then i read. honestly i see no difference, i feel like this is just a coo to intimidate trolls. the only differences I've seen are visual aspects. could someone explain the differences from the previous rules and now?
Basically, it was done to make them more specific and prevent people from misunderstanding them. They also cover all of the necessary legal issues we didn't have in the rules before.
Could you care to elaborate? Some of them were just copy/pasted from a different forum (With their permission of course.) and in some cases reworded a bit. Not something I really agreed with, but...
Oookay, where to begin... I don't have any specific reason as to why I don't like this rule, so all I'll say is that I don't see how that would be a problem. This is the only thing I found about Roleplaying, and it's about the chat. What specific rules apply to the RP board, then? I see that bloody and gory things are banned on the forum, yet over 50% of the roleplays involve that. There is also nothing about language in the RP section. Are we suddenly disallowed to use "colorful language" now? *looks at Pinkie's Friend In Need board* *says nothing* Okay, this is the main rule that just rustles the HELL out of my jimmies. My previous thoughts on Private things was that admins could only view it if it was reported. Knowing that they can see everything I say just makes me feel violated now. I understand this is with good intentions and, knowing the admins of this site, they would never abuse it, but any new users wouldn't know that. All in all, I feel like this site is attempting to be a bit TOO kid-friendly. Take the average ages of everyone on this site, I don't think you'll land below 15.
The RP section does have it's own set of rules, though I'm sure you've seen them before. So in essence the RP section has it's own seperate set of rules.
The private logs are in regard to the Chat, not Private Messages or anything else. The chat has it's own coding that is separate from the forums that allows administrators to view chat logs from previous times and private chat logs. It doesn't apply to the forum's Private Messages. We can't even view them. These new rules suck, I admit. It's due to poor communication and lack of effort, I'd say.
With things like art, it's nice to give credit where it's due. Actually, I'm pretty sure that we've had members younger than 15 (one was 11?). And if we were to loosen the rules a bit. It'd be much harder to control.
They're not too bad. At least you've actually attempted to change them instead of them becoming obselete and just gathering dust. Although Jhera does bring up a point with the Pinkie's Friend in Need board.
Honestly, i was doing some research to understand how far we have gone with age restriction... we have hit the 5 year old mark... IMHO, Allow swearing, but not too much. good example: Well that is total sh**? Bad example: omg you f***ing R*T*RD Go suck a massive d*** @ B-Dog, ramza said that it was copy and pasted... and with this i have lost all credibility for the staff... i don't know who's stupid idea it was to do that, but they deserve a demotion. all they are showing is they do not care for us and are too lazy to even consider us with importance. This is a complaint and a report concerning the staff. I do not want a repeat of last winter.
This just stated that the administrators (and only them) have the ability to view private logs. It's a standard Vbulletin feature and cannot be turned off. This is why we only thought it to be fair that we mention this in the rules. Besides, this was common knowledge long before the rules were updated. I'm certain there was a thread about this in Site Discussion, or mentioned in a thread at the very least. You really don't have any idea about how much we actually do for you guys, do you? We worked on those rules for a month, if not longer. We did more than just "copy/paste them from another site" like Ramza said.
The second section of the rules apply sitewide. There are language rules there. Don't you think it would be a bit redundant to repost the same rule for each section? That's why that would go in our "global" section. Formal counseling service. Last time I checked, we aren't that. We can only provide basic comfort to our members. Private CHAT logs. We can't read Private Messages on the forums. But whispers in chat can be read but only by admins. And only unless a complaint is issued. And Ramza. I take that as a personal insult. We worked on those rules for months and you know it. We borrowed some of another forum's guidelines under their permission. And guess what's funny, they copied a lot of their rules from another forum too.
That's how it was when I joined, but around the time Derpy Hooves left, it was changed from no excessive swearing, to no swearing period.
