I am football player, sooo I'm pretty safe from most students at my school (When you're six foot, walk around with a blank face, and can bench yourself, along with squat over 300 pounds, people tend not to mess with you). But I still don't openly show it because, well, I really can't as I lack merch and it's not like I go prancing about to Winter Wrap-Up all day. Though I do plan on doing my own, such as getting the Twenty Percent Cooler logo done on the some of my shirt sleeves. So I have yet to deal with haters outside the internets.
Sometimes you dont use it you just have it. Since i listen to heavy metal amd wear that kind of clothes most people fear me, even when i wear a pony t shirt. And im female and not that tall with 1,75 meters. They just fear me because i look strange.... Well not my problem
Intimidation? well, I usually wear baggy clothes, tall tee's, and always skateboard shoes, and as colorful as possible (often extreme sports related). And then I just show up in pony tall tee. So, even for people that don't know about mlp, they probably think it's just part of very colorful outfits (witch are very common among snowboarders specially. just check out on some site snowboard jackets and pants, and you'll see that colorful ponies aren't going very far from color standard in snowboarding (Europe specially)) Spoiler: example this is jacket I wear for snowboarding:
