I have a very amusing mental picture of God placing TNT in a void and then setting it off, like Minecraft...hehehe.....

I can't be the only one who thinks we could possibly be in some sort of Matrix program.

I have a similar belief to Sparky's. I think that when Gos said 'let there be light' the Big Bang happened

That's awful! Someone actually stabbed you? I feel like religions in general have gotten out of hand since they first began, breaking off into others, changing words, all that jazz. Heck, if Christianity never existed, we never would have gone though the Dark Ages of Science and would be 1000 years forward in technology right now. Cure for cancer or Christianity? Hard choice...

i have always thought that... the religion itself is not the problem, its the people who are in it. While some are actually nice people and care about peace, others are about making sure its "gods way". Being very conservative, Evangelical, crazy. Saying that science is the act of worshiping the devil, or being gay is against gods wishes and therefore, makes you automatically shunned, or not going to church on Sundays and get tons of abuse and hurtful words because you "are bound for hell because you wont give time to god". its the ones who force others to do what they want, the ones to indoctrinate children and rage against those who want change.
i think the reason why religion is seen as such a bad thing now is because science is overpowering everything else. people like facts better than thoughts. the only people who are religious now are the crazy fanatics, save the real Christians.

For me, I think that yes, there is something holding the universe together and yes it was created somehow, but whether that thing is God or not is up for debate. To me, the idea of a Creator really contradicts science.

Ever since kindergarten, I was supposed to believe that God resides in heaven.
So naturally I asked, "So when did God die?"
    "He didn't die."
"Then how is he in heaven?"

Everything needs a source as dictated by science. Everything that ever was, is, or ever will be is directed by science. If everything needs an origin, there should be a creator, right? But where did the creator come from?

It's easy to say, "well, he's always been there". That simply makes no sense. Is that laziness or ignorance? I mean of course, when there was no science, what are you going to explain the origin of the universe with? Many seem to think that their view is right and often miss many interesting possibilities that way.

Even if there was a creator who has always been there, why did he choose to create the universe? Did he get bored one day and say, "I think I'll make 10 dimensions of space-time."?

String theory may actually be our best bet to actually understand the universe, and I look forward to that day. C:

I'm not provoking any arguments, these are simply beliefs. Essentially, non-religious. x3

    It was like that.

Well it WAS a giant explosion of light.

Pretty much this...Actually...I dont go to church either. You dont really need to.

No. He has ALWAYS been there since before time. String theory IS however.Possible.Not likely though considering the dimensional requirements.

I dunno why God made the universe...Cant explain.

Explain this.Where did the universe come from? It cant have been a random event as there was NOTHING before it.Except God.

Therefore it is the most logical answer. As there are literally no other variables.

Pretty much all the others are nonsense or off a small amount(Islam is close)

Actually science would be about the same. As humanity still fights itself for petty reasons.

Plus.If there is no God?Why have a sense of morality? With that i could just go out and kill 30 people. When someone asked why.I say"Because there is no real purpose to morality"

I entered this conversation and immediately noticed this post.

For starters, I would like to apologise on behalf of all the Christians. I do know you get people like that, and the irony of it is, they are doing wrong in being religious bigots, God didn't want them like that, he wanted them to love everyone no matter what. love thy neighbour

Secondly, I agree, the only reason people oppose a religion or think it's stupid, is because of the people who act stupidly, and claim 'God made them do it.'
I certainly hope they will be shown the correct path soon.

And lastly, My views on the subject of religion

I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, I believe that you should love. accept and forgive everyone, no matter what, because in the end you would want the same to happen to you. I do preach however, I don't want anyone to be condemned to hell, so I act out of love and try give them a little nudge, But if I can see they won't budge I won't push them.

Anyway, this will probably be my only post in this thread unless anyone has questions for me.
    Peace

Thou art false, I am afraid. Not to toot my own horn, but I have a great deal of common sense, and my near-antireligion is because of me judging what I feel is right.

To justify this, let's look at France, Scandinavia and Japan. The amount of people living without religion in those countries is fairly high in relation to those with, and those countries are fairly advanced in the fields of science, technology and freedom in general (France has nuclear fusion, Sweden has a very nice society, Japan is crazy with its technology and so on and so forth).

In fact, I shall amend my previous statement from 'Verging on antireligious' to 'Verging on anti-Abrahamic-religion'. I may be wrong, but I have seen very few instances where religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Shinto etc. have caused terrorism/poor society etc.

Thats because of crazed fanatics....*Sigh*This is hopeless. I may as well be explaining the Quantum uncertainty principle to a rock.

Al right this is what i think. You can piece this together with both the Bible and science and still get a logical conclusion.

    This is what i think.

God created the universe from a single atom."Let there be light" meant the big bang.

He had "programmed" it to create stars planets etc.

He chose a planet of the right mass and content to create life.Creating the first life forms and starting evolution.

Only one species was certain to come out of this. And that was humans. The others are simply the product of the environment.

A day in Gods perspective could be billions of years to us.

After that.Genesis happened. The humans were not originally gonna be so...evil and defiant.Bet Eve had to listen to a talking snake....

And then after that the Bible happened

And the reason bad things happen?Simple.Random events of nature. God doesnt hurt people. Its just random events that happen.

Read this and think about it a little.

Who made God? x3 Obviously something had to make God for God to make the universe.

Besides, these are just my beliefs. I honestly don't care what you believe as long you are happy with them. c:

That theory makes complete sense. I simply disagree with it.

And thats good enough for me.
God was simply always there. Hey.He wrote the laws of physics. He can defy them all he wants.

    Theories... religious theories... hmm.

Did you know that there is a gene which is instilled within each of us which apparently is most of the reason we believe in a higher power? Strange, right?

Imagine if Time and Space had their own sentience, and they are what created what created us? Or created a series of deities, which we've been programmed to see as one? (Even though most earlier cultures believed in many deities.)
After all, what reason would evolution keep a "god gene" with us throughout all this time? Well, I suppose it is a cultural need in most eras...

Perhaps the chain of evolution itself was planned out from the beginning... but I believe we as a species were meant to be wiped out by nature a long time ago. It's not hard to imagine, with research, that some other animal species are not far behind sentience and technological self awareness in the evolutionary chain. It's also easy to see that species which become extinct are the ones behind on evolution, and become devoured by nature's diseases.

Look at the tasmanian devils. Unexplained tumors that close up their air passages and ability to swallow? Perhaps they're in the pool for extinction... but we're intervening.

We as a species may be holding the planet back from progress... but at least it's only been for the past few thousand years.

What if... what if... but after learning of genetics and reptillian biology it's incredibly difficult not to believe in evolution.

Physicists wrote the laws of physics. Science is our understanding of those laws.

I'm simply too open-minded to believe that the universe was created by a single entity.

That is why i mix evolution with God. It makes more sense.Plus its probably very likely it happened that way.

And the God gene thing is partially correct. "Let us create Man in our image"-God. Man is basically God without omnipotence, omniscience and omnibenevolence.

Even if we're a good many million years behind in evolution from reptiles. They actually evolved much, much sooner than we did.

As mammals, we had quite a harsh environment to grow into.

Yes but Mammals have 3 things reptiles do not have.

    1:Self heating.
    2:Advanced maternal instincts.
    3:Intelligence.
