Spoiler: Creepy Intro Space... Inquisitive ponies have reached up towards the stars and wondered what was beyond their sky for generations. Watching through telescopes and observatories at the manipulation done by their beloved Alucornus Princesses. After a calamity occurred which took both the royal princess of the Sun and the princess of the Moon, the ponies found that the Sun and Moon rotated without them. Though on a slightly different clock, it still continued without the help of magic. Unicorns would not stand to believe that the light and dark would come and go as it pleased, and sought to wrest control of Equestria back from nature. They did not want to have a world that was like the Ever-Free Forest. A place without order. So they worked... and toiled over their research, and built a complex contraption which would ferry an intrepid group of ponies into space. A space ship... to explore the unknown. To find the ultimate source of magic! Long ago, the princesses were lost to the realm of dreams, and the only one able to return them was exterminated by a vengeful creature. The elimination of the threat came with the assistance of the changeling queen, who was then forced into a truce with the ponies. Since the loss of the princesses, life's been a little strange. Calendar days run on approximately 36 hours, instead of their earlier 24. However, with the royal family diminishing, things have been going haywire. Equestria entered a war with dragons, but with the assistance of a pro-pony dragon clan and the changelings, the war ended at a standstill for both sides. The Silvermane Dragon Clan became strong allies with the ponies, griffons, and changelings of the already moving world. However, unicorn scientists were still baffled at the movement of the sun and the moon. Their curiosity led them to make a vessel which would transport them into the vastness of the space beyond the atmosphere. This would allow them to search down the magic which controls the movement of the sun and moon, and either obtain it... or at least alter it to change days back to 24 hours long. The unicorns built it with travel, comfort, and defense in mind. Not leaving it without weapons... since with all the dangers of their world, sending a ship out into the unknown without weapons would be insane. You are an intrepid member of the illustrious crew aboard the Mysterious - a cruiser class ship built by ponies who wish to find the source of all magic within the universe. Private class... at least, for now. You may choose one of the following species: Pony - Regular, Draft, Unicorn, and Pegasus are available. You may choose to be a blank flank Alucornus if you truely wish. Griffon - Long time allies of the ponies, the griffons excel at taking to the skies. Silvermane Dragon - Notoriously terrible with the technology the unicorns crafted, the only thing that would entice a dragon to come along would be an inquisitive nature. They're tough, and dangerous... but not good with mechanical or digital knowledge. Changeling - Changelings are emotional parasites, which means that at times a changeling must feed to sustain themselves. However, they have found that there are strange ponies which will offer themselves for the feeling of the experience... or trade things for the feeding. It's been long outlawed that they changeling take a thrall, though - a pony completely drained of emotion who's become a mere slave to the changeling. However, their unique ability to "blend in" has been utilized. Then, one role on the ship: Security - Ensuring everything goes without a hitch. Not afraid to get into combat. Seeker - The casters of magic. Put aboard the Mysterious in search of the Universal Magic Source. They get pretty good treatment aboard the cruiser, and usually get kinda cocky. Scout - Used for searching new areas before anypony else goes at risk. They end up being the most active of the crew, but often get proper respect from the Captain. Technician - Few and far between, these ponies have an understanding of the workings of the Mysterious. They keep the ship running. Bridge Crew - The term for pilots, navigators, etc. As a private, any player in this spot would be watching and learning, not flying unless something were to happen to the original crew member. Staff - A term for the floor sweepers, mess hall cooks, doctors, and other misc. staff. Equipment all depends on your choices. To sign up, give me your info. When they said they needed Security on this... Thing called the "Mysterious" I took it upon myself to think about it over some good old Griffin ale. After a few drunk thoughts, I decided why not. Welcome aboard Private Rifter. We've got your badge and hat prepared. You'll find a multi-purpose griffon-made firearm in the armory for you. Said firearm has exchangable cartridges. Its main purpose is firing gassing pellets which knock their target out. It also has tranquilizer darts and... extermination bullets. However, the extermination bullets take a lot more power to fire, so using them can wear out your weapon quicker. We've also provided you with a pair of anti-changeling grenades... just in case one of them gets out of line. It'll mess us their natural abilities and cause them to revert so you can weed them out of groups. It's harmless to regular ponies and griffons, and has minimal effect on silvermanes.
Name:Gear Burn Species: Unicorn Cutie Mark/Special talent: a burning gold gear, he's a master inventor and engineer. Background: Before the event Gear was based in canterlot part of a team of bright unicorns tasked with creating the first crystal powered engine. But his work was cut short during the war against dragons during that war they were told to focus on more military grade technology. Then the war ended and now with some extra claws in the form of the griffon empires best scientists. They were finally tasked with creating 4 engines for what they only said was a long and distant journey for a brighter tomorrow. After 5 prototypes they created a final product run on a strong magic and solar energy. 3 were about the size of twilights library and another the size of a small bungalow. Now he's onboard the S.Sa mysterious as one of the engine technicians but due to no previous experience in leadership he choose to be a private at least then he would actually get hands on unlike just telling people what to do. appearance:

So, my mentor and total PFF, Misty Shores (she's, like, a totally smart and really pretty unicorn. We're totally like this *crosses claws*), told me all about these things that they were sending to explore the stars. They're like airships except they go into space. I think they should be called spaceships. You know, because they go into space. Aaaaaanywho. I was all like, "Chya! I should totally do that!" Because, like, stars and stuff are really cool and Misty said that I'm getting too old and big for her lab and I don't wanna be out on the streets, you know what I mean? It's like "As if!" So, like, I like exploring and stuff and I thought, "Like, wouldn't it be totally cool to explore space and stuff because space is probably huge and it has way more room than Misty's old lab." Like, totally awesome! This is gonna be sweet, I can tell! I'm assuming that he's a Technician class?
I'm thinking... maybe it's that he was on the design team for the theories and once he got on the ship found out how much different design... and actual technical engineering were.
Gear was on the building team but he just decided that if he was ahead technician he would get limited hooves on with the engines so chose to be a private so he could actually get his hooves dirty and be able to get hoofs on with the engines he created
^ "Hooves-on" (I'm kind of a stickler for that sort of thing. If you read My Little Unicorn, you would understand.) So, basically, rather than delegate the responsibility of maintaining the engines to just anypony, he wanted to do it himself. I can get behind that.
