NONE OF THESE WERE DONE VIA TRACING! All of my work here is drawn with only a photo for reference as help.... most of these would have been impossible to trace with what I had for a photo anyways! Class doodling Taylor Swift from a cd cover <3 Ironman Buffy Sketch, WIP Disturbed - Indestructable cover Wolverine <3 Bumblebee 2007 movie, drawn from looking at laptop, picture too large to scan Painted in 05? Danielle's senior picture drawn from wallet size Idk, 04? Ticked teacher off in school.... another project I did when I wasn't supposed to... Large version was sold for $50 for our arena.
Okay I've just been staring for way too long at these pictures. You're so good it makes me die inside a little. Like legitimately. Ow. >3>
Thanks ya'll. Those stem down from just before high school to after high school. I started drawing when I was in like 1st grade, was an escape for me. As ya'll can probably tell, I LOVE Transformers... which is another Hasbro show, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker have been in both MLP and TF I have more once I find them in photobucket and I'm going to draw a MLP of what I would see myself as, possibly a mix between the G1 and FIM styling... or maybe more me style... and draw out my Cutie mark, possibly like my future tattoo... a paw print inside of a horse-shoe.
You've been drawing for an awfully long time I see. I've actually been drawing since the first grade myself, which you might be able to tell from a quick glance at my grades, and now I find myself continuing at it here 11 years later. Though I'll admit, I'm still so much worse than you were back then. Have you taken many art classes before highschool, or did you just naturally progress on your own before then? Because if you got that good on your own than I have some catching up to do >3>
I checked out a book in our library called How To Draw Horses and Foals? It has a blue cover... I worked on pieces of the horses, like the lower leg, or the head, or the upper leg and so forth then worked on the full photo. From there I checked out other books, adopted different styles to combine into my own style, such as shapes, shading... I took normal school courses throughout elementary and middle school. I helped out with plays/musicals and even drew the deer for the Wyalusing trip... outdoor ed I believe its called. I ticked my teachers off drawing/doodling throughout all my classes... but you have to know this, I gained my skill pretending to do my homework so my bio-mother would leave me alone some... although many times she wouldn't let me do my homework... I was literally her slave, I was abused a lot, my father worked at night, slept during the day, he was maintenance worker at a battery plant. In HS I already had a Style mainly made but then add in Mr. Terry Downs who has painted for John Deere and sells a lot of art work... can find him via google and facebook.... T Downs helped me refine my skill a bit more and with Linda's abusive damage already done I was shy and didn't trust most people around me so I sunk into a little bubble of my art and 2 friends. I'm 23 now... out of Linda (bio mother)'s since 2003 or so. Damage is still there but my fiancee is working with me... and my art is STILL improving. Art will come to you, just have to figure out what works for you... my sister is improving and she's almost 21 now... took her until 21 to get into a bit of a stride with art. Oh, to answer the one question, even with art classes I learned just as much, if not more outside of the classes... natural process and books. Check out some books, try to incorporate their methods into your art and it may help.
I don't draw whatsoever! But I'm going to stick my hoof in here just to compliment you on your beautiful drawings. They are really amazing!
Thank you much DoragonEichi. Oh, if any pony has some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM I would appreciate it. Just keep in mind some of these are over 5 yrs old!
Eh, I could never just study how to draw from a book. It'd lose all of it's fun if it was something I had to /study/ as compared to something I'd teach myself over time. Heck, even with an art class you still essentially teach yourself, just with the help of an instructor, and I know, I know, the same thing could be said for books, but it still just ruins the magic for me.
I used books as references and too look to see different styles like line shading or the cross mark type shading. To follow a book to the T takes away a bit of your own style. I loved my HS teacher Mr Downs, he let me just go with art, though I'd have to do the start of the quarter art project he made everyone do. He has to look at things to draw when some of mine I just pull out of my head, like dragons. -_- Proved that my talent was also a pain, any school class things they were after me and Liz for our "talents" to make some artsy thing. Also those who say they would never be able to draw well, you may be wired for other talents so never let something get you down if you can't do it. I've seen some who can't draw but are brilliant at writing.
They look amazing!!! My two cents however would be to work on the eyes for the humans. The animals I cant say anything about seeing as how I CANNOT judge them. (don't ask, they were BAD so just leave it at that.) You most obviously have a lot of talent
