So it's the end of the first nine weeks, and it went pretty fast. I thought I was doing fine for having a few advanced classes thrown into my first year of high school. I thought wrong. Here's my grades: Algebra 2- B Advanced Biology 9- C English Gifted Honors- D French 2- A General Science 9- C Computer Science- B Studio Art- U US History- A I'm extremely upset with myself. There's a lot of pressure put on us for Biology, since we have to pass the Keystones at the end of the year to pass the grade. I haven't turned in a few assignments in English, so that brought my grade down substantially. My Science 9 teacher has a stick up her ass, and she thinks way too highly of herself, so I kinda slack off in the class. But I do try to keep my grade up. The only reason I have a U in Art is because she'll assign things at the beginning of the week without telling anybody, and then they're due at the end of the week, without any reminder in between. So I just draw ponies the whole time. So anyways, I don't know if anybody cares, but I know the brony community is really supportive
Aww, sorry to hear you're having some trouble. You just have to keep on top of your work. Try not to forget to turn in your assignments for English. I've forgotten things before, so I think getting a planner or something like that helps. I had one of those.....never really used it, to my disadvantage. Heh, even if it sounds REALLY tempting, slacking off is awful in the long run. I hate stingy teachers, but I think everyone has to grin and bear it from time to time. Gah! I hate art class. I was awful at them! Look at the bright side, you're doing great at Algebra, French, and History! So just put the work you do there into the other classes. :3
I don't even know what a "U" is. Does that stand for something? I have gotten plenty of bad grades in my day. Besides that "U" (if it's really that bad) you seem to be doing okay. Just put more focus on that English class to bump it up from a D and you'll be alright. A couple C's in anything really isn't all that bad, especially when you've got a few A's to back them up. I'm sorry to hear that you're stressed out. I've gone through the same stress all my years of school. I know what it's like. If I could offer any advice, it would be to focus and power through the things that are difficult for you. It gets better as you move along, and it's not the end of the world.
Grades never really bothered me, to be honest. What you learn in school IS important, don't get me wrong. But grades are just something based on the things you write down on a test. Whatever your grades are, they'll never set your future in stone. Just focus on what you think is important for yourself, you'll get good grades in the things you like, and that's what matters. What you learn in school is what you'll need in life later on.
I agree, to a point. Extremely low grades can prevent you from participating in certain programs or they can even cause a University to kick you out. Still, as long as you pass the classes, and work your way up to whatever goal it is that you have set for yourself (ex: a degree in ______), nobody will ask you about your grades after your graduate out of the educational system, except out of arbitrary curiosity.
The grading system of the UK goes like A* > A > B > C > D > E > F > G > U, so I'll assume America is somewhat similar. U basically means you can't spell your name. And grades. YOU NEED GOOD GRADES.
I suck at school. Especially showing up. Apparently, if I don't show up, but still do all the work, I get no credit and fail. What's up with that?
I know and understand the pressure of having to do well in school, especially in my senior year. But I can honestly say, your grades are actually pretty good, especially considering this is your first year in high school. Based on the names of some of the classes, I am assuming you are taking an Honors course of some kind. If all you're trying to do is maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average, then you just need to focus a bit more on Advanced Biology, English Gifted Honors, and General Science. I've never taken a true Art course, so I do not know what a U grade means, unfortunately. I know it can seem overwhelming, but I find it helps to take a step back, breathe, and see the big picture and plan out as much as is possible in advance. If you'd like help with that, please do not hesitate to send me a PM and I'll be very glad to help you with planing/studying/test-taking/morale-giving/etc. Also, if you don't mind my asking, why are you taking two sciences? I apologize for the overly drawn-out post. In summary, yes, I do care and I'd like to help in any way I can. Just take a breath.
High school was something. I always want to be better then my classmates. Even tho I passed High school with a 3.3 in my GPA and I got A's most of the time, I still wish I had Honors. My goal was 3.0 but after that, I wanted Honors. If I never failed math in 9th grade then that would of happen. Just Try your best. School first before fun time. Don't overload yourself. This is not the end for you.
I assume that it's the start of the year for you, so don't feel too disheartened. Just try to keep on top of your work, Zephyr Wind mentioned getting a planner, that could help. Or even a simple checklist to make sure you've done everything is important. And you have to be willing to put in the effort. While it's true that you don't need good grades in everything, you do come across as a better candidate if you are doing well in a variety of things.
can help with: Algebra General Science Computer Science. don't let grades get you down. I'm sure you can make them better, just with little help and hard work
On a side note, the typical American grading system used in High School's and Universities runs this way: A > B > C > D > F A is typically 90%-100% B is typically 80%-89% C is typically 70%-79% D is typically 60%-69% And F is typically 0%-59% Some schools use other systems, but those are more the exception than the rule. Additionally, each letter can be assigned a "+" or a "-" depending on whether you come close to the high or low end of each bracket (ex: A- > B+ > B-). In America, a C should be enough because that's supposed to mean "average", but because of the way we condition our kids to think that grades reflect intelligence and the way our school boards are competing to be rated at higher and higher levels, a C average is often considered terrible (and unfairly so). Ouch. That bad, huh?
Last year my guidance counselor suggested that I double up in science, so im taking the required science class and an advanced class. The biology is basically sophmore level. Ugh. And to everypony that doesnt know what a U is. Im assuming that the rest of America's grading system goes A, B, C, D, F, but here in Pennsylvania F is replaced by a U. So yes, a U is equivalent to an F
I see. Art is not everyone's forte. It certainly isn't mine. Anyways, perhaps you could talk to your counselor about your feelings of being overwhelmed? He/she may be able to help. You'll be in my prayers.
