Sooo since i was rewatching old videos of the Anti-ACTA Demonstration here in Munich i just remembered INDECT. First take this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INDECT TL,DR: Little Camera quadrocopters flying around the city, checking everyone. If you act unnormal they scan your face and scan all possible databases like Facebook and the ones of the police. Example: It is considered normal to search for the car Keys for 5 Seconds, then enter the car and drive away. If someone i standing near a car and needs longer to search the keys, that stuff will start. If you have an entry in your police database about car theft (even if it was from 20 years ago) they will send Policemen to invastigate. At the moment it is just in the state of research and not actively used. And it is not really known even here... Well just some people know, that really are behind such things. I just have to say to this: George Orwell 1984 And by the way, they dont only use videomaterial, but can also use sound material.... *cough* Edit: Sooo many typos...
Hard to read the post, but that would be HIGHLY intrusive and considering the pathetic response times where I live, completely USELESS. A) It would have to fly high, be fast, quiet, very small, amazing battery life, amazing AI, and great facial recognition abilities. Not to mention all the small factors that can't even be predicted such as magnetic interference, jamming, the fact that they don't always file things properly, the amount of time required to upload all faces into a database required for this, and the fact it would have to be constantly connected to the internet. The latter of which isn't exactly as big of a problem anymore. B) Irregularities occur so often each and every day, that with enough false reports, the pigs would stop bothering with it unless it's totally obvious, making it useless. Reminds me of BIG BROTHER. - - Auto Merge - - And oh JAYSUS, don't get me started on the lawsuits to follow.
I'm not worried, because even if did SOMEHOW go through Congress, the Supreme Court would go "Nope!" and strike it down, end of story. People always forget the Supreme Court...
Yes. They are the last bastion of Freedom, the final line of defense against overreaching government. I'm glad they are on our (The U.S. Constitution's) side, at least for the time being. In short: Much ado about nothing.
That's the rare moment when i am glad that i live in third world country. Future from antiutopia novels coming to reality ? No thanks! I'd rather continue to use my kerosene laptop.
As i said in the moment it is still in research, but well, if you research such stuff i see the intenton to use it sooner or later. For the technology, have you seen the quadrocopters that are researched for the military? They have a lot of abbilitties etc. And just you didnt knew it in germany a similar technology is already used. We have demonstrations from nazis and we have demonstrations against nazis. And because this is such a good idea they are always held at the same day... well most of the times... And on this demonstrations is a high willingness for aggressivness. Therefore they already used quadrocopters with cameras incase of aggressvity ad fights. Well they didnt use any databases or such, but are just used as a flying eye. And connection to the internet is not a problem anymore, because of all that fancy mobilephone technology we already have. I just think as i already said, if they research such stuff they want to use it. And if it needs another 20 years or whatever. I was just shocked when i read about all that stuff. There is also a usefull information site but its just in german.
I don't think that the police will be replaced by robots anytime soon. Robots can't make decisions as well as humans can (when you take into account morals and emotions). However, using robots as tools, that's a different story.
Yes, robots will never replace humans as cops, but on the other hand, I find Robocop quite possible Spoiler: Robocop
Robocop, as shown in the movie, is quite an immoral project. If only he can be a free minded cyborg- that's ok. And of course they should ask subject's permission before doing such operation.
Um, bringing up the morals of making the original Robocop ain't the purpose of this thread you know...
