Like how RD acted nothing like RD, she was flying around doing sonic rainbooms and NO ONE ever noticed at any point in time. For 15 years. And many of the other ponies' lines came off as mechanical. Honestly the only part of it I thought was done well was the narrator's emotions.
The reason RD didn't act like RD is because she was raised differently. I bet people did notice but just thought it was their imagination or if they went to investigate Dash and the guy were already gone. The only thing I didn't like about it was how many times he said my heart exploded.
You need to check out some other fanfics. There's alot of good fics in this fandom. If you want, I could send you a PM or something that reccomends some good fics I've read {Not now though, as I'm going to bed in a few minutes}. MLD just happens to be ridiculously popular, and I didn't like it very much either. Believe me, one of the reasons why I like this fandom is because it kinda averts the "98% of fanfics are crap" thing that most people believe.
I would accept that explanation if the narrator had not explicitly stated that RD had grown up to be just like how she is in the show.
I forgot about that. Alright you have a good point. But that still doesn't justify not reading Past Sins.
Basically, I went into MLP fanfics having a negative opinion on fanfics in general, then read a really popular MLP fanfic, didn't like it, and that put me off of MLP fanfics too. I guess that pretty much sums it up.
Of Mares and Magic and Past sins. Are the best 2 I've ever read. The Party Hasn't Ended is damn good too. There are a ton of awesome fanfics out there that I've enjoyed. I wish I was home so I could be part of this conversation.
I'll consider it. The biggest thing I'm put off by is the time investment. Reading would take a lot of free time to do, and without any assurance that I'll like it. As it is, I already feel a bit stifled for free time (not sure why, I don't have any less than I used to).
I wonder why shipping gets on my nerves so much. I can't single out any specific thing, but when I think about it or when other people start to do it, I have to rolls my eyes for some reason.
Like just the thought of Twi and Trixie together gets on your nerves no matter how well it's done. Is it like something to do with the canon? Like you can't imagine the canon characters do it so it becomes a weird and foreign concept to you.
Hmm...More like most shipping seems to have no basis whatsoever, and so it just becomes this jumbled mess that makes me exasperated. Like people put together two characters they like regardless of whther or not there's anything that could possibly be construed as a hint in the show. EDIT: Time for bed. Night guys.
I totally do that. Rarity X Trixie. No reason other then just because I like them. I mean almost all are based off nothing, the only 2 that come to mind are Cheeirmac and the Cakes. The rest are just fans having fun I guess. But that's why it's called a fan fic, it lets fans attempt and play with a set of characters that the creators may never touch. Like Cupcakes, Past sins, A Dragons Detour. These would never be touch on in the show.
I think more the problem with shipfics is that often due to the nature of them it seems very out of character. If a shipfic is done well than it can make it halfway believe-able, but most just have something along the lines of "Continuous not-so-subtle hinting that X pony loves Y pony"
