I've seen many titles like this in the blogs section, so I thought that I'd keep up with the trends. And since this thread will discuss fanon and canon, I was unsure whether this belongs in the community section or this section (although this section seemed like the sensible option). Anyway, what do you guys think about fanon? While canon is "facts" from the show, some people have different views on how fanon intertwines with canon or other kinds of fanon. I personally believe that fanon has no impact on canon at all. I also believe that each bit of fanon is "possible" in it's own way. It's why I am okay with ships. No amount of fanon will actually make Rainbow Dash a lesbian, so the shipping doesn't ruin it. It's also why clop doesn't phaze me at all, since what I have seen on the internet is not true for the actual show at all. Also, if Twidash is the theme of one fanfic, it's not impossible for Appledash to be the theme of another fic. Neither is canon, so it doesn't mean too much to me. Hopefully I've managed to explain myself clearly, but how do you think that canon and fanon interact with one another? And how do you think that fanon interacts with other fanon?
In Putting Your Hoof Down, doesn't Bon Bon also have Lyra's cutie mark as the latch on her saddle bags? Little things do get put in all the time but I don't think they will affect the overall "storyline". They will remain easter eggs to find in the shows.
I agree with this. And it's also why I have no feeling towards background ponies. They're just their to fill space. Now all the members look at me with shame as I reveal this secret of mine. Although I don't exactly want the fandom to suppress this creativity, or else that defeats the whole point of a fandom.
I was just saying. Fanon can affect canon. Though I'm sure that the show will never have a smoking, deaf Vinyl like I picture in my head.
Ah, that makes more sense. As for fanon affecting the show directly, the producers will always have little nods towards bronies. But I don't think that they'll make that same mistake again. It's too much effort over something so small.
There's also that scene in the season 2 finale of Rainbow Dash faintly kissing Fluttershy. Though that's always been a "not sure if" moment.
Then there was the time with the Mare-do-well thing. When the camera flashed. Dash totally kissed AJ. That or the edit someone made has become my canon.
Fanon or fan made ideas aren't really affected or related to the canon story or ideas of the actual show/ series.
