Because sapping love turns ponies into mindless zombies after a while. Seen it happen. Should give them a few months to regenerate before feeding again. Or just sap it from animals.
Just steal it from the animals. I turned myself into a changeling once...science gone wrong. And i sapped it from animals until the spell wore off.

Or you know..i could just do science on you..Hey maybe i can make it where you're normal but you retain the shapeshifting power! I think i have something like that.
