With Pony of the Year coming up, I thought it'd be nice if we did something for the staff of this site. Knowing how hard they work and how little they get praised in comparison, I think it'd be good for us to have kind of award or set of awards to give the in recognition. Catergories would be something like The Twilight Award for most helpful, the Pinkie award for most fun, the Fluttershy award for most shy etc... What do you guys think?
Sounds good, but i don't see why these awards should be exclusively for staff members. Anyone can be helpful, fun, shy, generous, loyal, honest, or derpy (yes, i'm proposing a derpy award ). I propose we just go with an awards system and give these sort of awards to people whenever they deserve them. Anyone would be allowed to nominate someone else for an award at any time. In any case, making these awards exclusive to staff members is in my opinion a bad idea.
I agree with Rarit E, I think just about everyone's award section is bare on their profiles, with the exception of those who have won Pony of the Year or the radio awards. It would be nice to see users' awards boxes filling up a bit more. Just looking at the past is a clear example of why it would be a bad idea to have an unequal balance in this kind of area between staff and user...
I liked Foxy's idea, now like Rarit-E's idea even more. Still, it'd be nice for the staff to get a bit of recognition. I would suggest a staff of the year award, but 2 of my 3 pony of the year votes are members of staff so they might end up winning both.
The staff should surely get an award for themselves, but I definitely think those categories should be available to everyone. One award a year for members seems scant.
We all know Yeti would win anyways. I like the idea of this, but there needs to be awards for some of the users too. Hell, we should just leave the nomination page open and give out monthly awards to people who are constantly nominated every month.
I like both ideas. We could have a separate set, let Twilight Award for hardest working on staff, and then a Twilight Award for hardest working on the site at large, and exclude staff from the latter (because let's face it, Yeti would win both x3).
So it's pretty much the unanimous consensus that there should be a site-wide awards ceremony, with one of the awards being Staff of the Year Yeti. Cool, we'll get some ideas rolling for what some of the categories could be. If anybody has any suggestions feel free to shoot me a PM.
The point of the thread was to discuss ways to accredit the staff for their hard work, but it was seen that excluding members from an award ceremony would be rather unfair, but this leaves the point of the thread completely null. So it's my opinion there should be at least one award for the staff to serve this purpose.
You got it exactly Zephyr. I look forward to voting for Yeti the staff of the year as well as any other thing you make. =3
Just be sure to remember we're having 2 sets of awards: One for the staff exclusively, one for the users exclusively. That's what the idea is, right? Just like Yami said.
I just don't see the point in two sets of awards. Just make one set and allow everyone to get them. Giving the staff an exclusive set of awards will bring us back to my original point. Members would still feel excluded and seperated. I know the amount of work an average member of staff does. I've done alot myself and i never felt the need to be awarded for it. Suggesting that staff members need to be awarded for the work they do is redundant. If you're gonna utilize the award system, then hand out awards anyone can get. Give staff members the awards they deserve, but don't make awards exclusive to them alone. I'm completely against that.
