again, i agree with rarit e. except staff of the year ( obviously) other categories shloud be site wide.
The point of two sets of awards is so the users don't feel excluded. I was on the staff too, and I never felt like I needed an award, but just because we don't feel like we need one doesn't mean we shouldn't anyway. Ice cream doesn't need that chocolate syrup, but it makes it that much sweeter. It's nice to be rewarded a little every now and then. What we could do is just have one set of awards, and have a few staff only ones. I just think that you guys deserve something. There is no way to reward you guys seperately without excluding the users in some way, but why let that hold us back? You do the extra work, take the extra steps, you put yourselves in the place of the hated just to do what needs to be done, why shouldn't you get the extra rewards for doing so? It just doesn't seem fair to me that you should lose out because us regular users might feel excluded for being rewarded for something we're not doing for the most part.
Virtual awards are a wonderful way to boost one's ego and self-esteem. I agree to awards for all members.
Sure i guess, but here's the rub: Members can't see what staff members are working on more than half the time. What are they voting for? The work that deserves to be awarded (or things staff members do to not deserve one) happens behind the scenes most of the time. The only way to solve this is to literally showcase everything that happens behind the scenes. Unless that happens, every member's vote will be based on a half-truth. The awards they're given then might not be the ones they deserve and vice versa.
Like berry. I've been told he does a lot of work. I haven't the slightest clue what it is that he does. Nor do I even see him. Role model staff member.
Personally, after a bit of thought, I think all a staff award would show is who is more active on the forums. Nobody knows what goes on in the staff room or anything. The people who convey themselves on the forum (Like Yeti or Yami) would definitely win. It'd be a biased vote.
For the record I find this whole idea dumb. I don't see the point in awards. I recall someone said something about the "shy" award. I'm guessing based on fluttershy but who would you give it to? I don't remember the others besides the derpy award, but that's another i don't get. I think the pony of the year thing is silly. Also staff awards would just be popularity contest with like 14 people, but with only 3-4 getting votes.
I understand what you mean there. I guess the staff awards could be voted for by the staff themselves... failing that, they could be picked by the admins. They should know everything that's been going on and should have the clearest idea on who should get what.
I hardly know the staff members... but I'm sure they are doing their best to manage the site. Anyway... I think all good people (members/users) should be awarded.
If you're going to do staff awards, let the users vote on it. Everyone on the staff should have to state their case for the award. Each staff member write something down and make a thread for it with all of their writings in the OP. Each staff member should tell us what they've done this year for the site (be specific if possible) and why they deserve an award. Justify to the users why this award should go to you. Then after everyone has had a chance to see and read it all, then let us vote. Sent from my EVO 4G Shift using Tapatalk 2
Seems like an alright idea, although some people don't want to come off as too cocky, so they may hold back a bit.
It would be a good opportunity to let the users know about the behind the scenes stuff we don't see. Unless all the awards are for being humble, I'm sure listing goals that have been achieved and projects completed wouldn't be seen as cocky. More of a tangible things that can be accounted for. Give us metrics of what makes our staff good. I don't mean they should give us an "I'm awesome because X,Y,Z" for example. I'd be looking more for a "I helped the site by doing X, and finished 90% of Y. Here's my part in it and how I helped along in the process." Kinda like a "self-evaluation" on how well they think they did their job on the site. Sent from my EVO 4G Shift using Tapatalk 2
Seems more like it could be used as a guideline to which staff isn't all that good and which staff are decent under that description though.
I'd like to think that we have great staff and good staff. I don't want to believe that we have "staff that isn't all good or decent". It's not to much to ask to have you tell us or show us why we should vote for the best staff. With all the stuff we don't see as users, how else are we going to know? D: I've always wanted to get to know you, Rain, but you are literally always on when I'm asleep. ;~; Not a bad idea. My only problem is that I'd be hard-pressed to remember most things. @_@ I'm lucky if I can remember as far back as a week.
I believe in equal opportunities. I think there should be a list of awards, kind of like how Xbox/Steam achievements are set out, which apply to both the staff members and the users of this site. Awards could be given out based upon users telling the staff about what somebody did, or if the staff themselves recognise it, which of course would have to be done sensibly. No not giving awards to someone because you don't like them very much. I think Dragon's voting method could also work probably even better in this case. Next to the little award icon, it could have the number of times they've obtained the award in brackets, which would show it off on the profiles quite nicely. A physical list of the obtainable awards would be nice, because at the moment, all I know of is the Pony of the Year award. If the staff want an exclusive award, it should be a single award which is like employee of the month, the staff member who's had the most contribution, helped the most people, and been an all around nice person should get it, which should be judged by the admin or voted in by the users. As long as this doesn't turn into an ego boosting competition to see who can get the most awards, and god forbid, just being nice for the sake that you might get one and not out of natural friendliness, I'm ok, but not fully confident with this idea. I thought there was a staff discussion forum and things like Notepad to jot things down in.
Good point, though I've never once used Notepad for staff things and the Mod Discussion forum only gets used occasionally for really big things.
