Ah... I was looking to deeply. I agree with you on all of them, then. In terms of activity, you could have an award for logging on X amount of days consecutively, doing however many posts since joining and being a member of the site for a length of time. Can't really assign ponies to them things, though. Oh, and I like the birthday marquee. (very off-topic). Good addition, guys!
I like Rarit E's ideas. They encourage people to be friendly and you get awarded for it. It may also encourage members to do nice things that they wouldn't usually do if they want to get all the awards. Although since these awards will show what kind of person you are, they're similar to our old rep system. But this version can't be abused since it's in the staff's hands (unless they turn all evil on us).
Maybe we should make a separate thread for these ideas, rather than spamming the staff awards section... I'd have no clue where to put it though.
Oh, just make a thread about it in Site Discussion! I'll work with the staff on it as much as possible if it's really something you guys would want.
Now this is just me, but I do not like these awards or the idea. In fact in saying that I'd take a step towards earning one, wouldn't I? I think all this award talk is silly. I would also like to point out that I thought the "staff" were a "team". That's what Berry kept telling me. Teams normally don't hand out awards, maybe a shout out every once and a while but never an award. Leagues give awards. So I propose that we create a league. This league would contain members that are the highest ranking among all of users. This users would gather once a week and hand out 3 awards. Most active staff of the week, Most helpful staff of the week and Overall best staff member for the week. Then at the end of the year we would have one final meeting and decided Staff member of the year. But I'm not done yet, then we could have the normal users vote for the staff they like the most, but them in a little contest and have a mod off. It would be a friendly contest where the winning would have bragging rights over the others. Nothing more and nothing less. This is jokes
We were talking about member awards, not staff ones. That's why Ramzy-wamzy is making a new thread, so we don't all get confused.
Oh, we are. Then let me be serious for a second. I hate the idea of user awards, I already hate the very idea of the "pony of the year" award. I will be very disappointed if they are added and I will decline ever receiving one. This is not jokes
Why do you hate the idea so much? If it increases potential productivity on the site, I see no reason to not implement it. That said, I can see it maybe turning into a competition.
Because then people are only on to win awards. This is the rep system V2 and I want nothing to do with it.
Weekly or even monthly awards seem to be too often to me. Do we want any awards given out to mean something or do we want them to end up like Cracker-Jack prizes?
I don't think people would come on a pony forum to win awards, brag, and leave. We are a community, and these awards need to be earned. I don't think they will be given out like hotcakes - only if they truly deserve them.
Much like rep. You weren't here for that though, so I know you wouldn't know about it. Plus why would people leave after "winning" an award here? Are they gonna share it someplace else as a trophy?
Except that you get the awards from the admins, not the users. I felt that the main problem with rep was that it could be easily abused. With these, only certain people can give these awards (admins), so they'll have to earn it. Although if you guys do plan on implenting this, don't give them out too frequently. Once a month should be the minimum wait between handing these out.
Rep system anywhere sucks. It's going to be abused. This is different, and we all know it. Different in a good way or bad way, that choice is up to you. I've made my two cents here, I'm out /)
Who were the other people? I've found this thread: http://www.everypony.com/forums/showthread.php?2541-Reputation-and-it-s-Flaws But all these problems were caused by the users.
Let's not have this devolve into a conversation about something long gone. It was meant to be about letting people know "Hey, you there. You may not think about it, you might do, but we just want to say you rock."
Huh. I'm not saying that paying attention to potential flaws/issues is a bad thing. But these are just fun little achievements to strive for, not all powerful ego boosters. This doesn't even come close to the old reputation system. If you're a good pony you should be recognized.
Well people can just say that and it can have the same effect as getting an award regardless. I've been flip-flopping over this whole thing. Then I remembered what a certain someone said to me the other day regarding the best pony thing. 'It doesn't matter if you win or lose it, all that matters is that some people think that, to them, you are the best pony on the site. The award isn't what matters, it's how you take the praise that you actively get that does.' I dunno. If people feel that they need to have an award to feel special, then I don't see the point in doing this. You already have plenty of people tell you that they respect what you do. Isn't that enough?
