If you knew, would it not anger you more? And I know at least one person will vote for you - you have been here the longest for a start, and lots of people seem to like you. If you dont like the system, don't get involved - that's all I can really say. And I don't mean to offend you in any way when I say that.
Anger me, no. Disappoint me, yes. I'm also pretty sure that I would at least get 3 votes. That is the minimum I foresee that I'd get. I have no problem with people liking me, like me all you wish, just don't not vote for me. It's simple really.

Well curse my fingers and my 4 hours sleep. No, nothing is stopping you, but just remember who you're voting for. You are voting for the users that wants nothing to do with your silly little popularity contest, the user that WILL decline it.
I'll be honest. On the off chance that I'd win this award, I'd probably just pass it on to the next best person as well. But that doesn't mean I hate this entire thing. To me it's just for fun, as it should be to everyone else. I pity the fools who take this entire thing too seriously.
If you must use the word "popularity," then the proper wording would probably be "Popularity Poll", but as it is not a contest, since we are not actually participating, or submitting anything, then it is just merely polls... since there is voting involved.
Nope, popularity contest is what it is. See everyone has entered by default and the polls are votes. Since it is also an award, this is clearly a contest. This contest is decided on who is the most popular.
I voted for two people who aren't popular in relative terms. I won't specify names, but they have been amazing friends to me, so I gave them votes. In my eyes, voting based on popularity isn't what this is meant to be about. (but I do imagine this will be the case with a few people)
So, what you're saying is that we've been entered into a contest we didn't know about as contestants since the time we joined? A contest where no submissions are made, and no effort is required other than being yourself? A contest that has no parameters other than being a member of Everypony? Sounds much more like an opinion poll where the question is; "Who am best pony?!" Then when a decision is reached, the staff colelctively say; "You am best pony!"
Well that depends, is anyone going to vote for Affection, Lupr, Arrowfire43, -hope, I could go on for hours the list of users. See everyone has been entered, but only the popular have a real chance of winning. I can think of 5 that I believe will have the top votes. An opinion of best pony is still a vote. Why else would they use the word vote? And when you win you get a little award no one will see, you also get a custom title.............oh wait.
What I view this as, or at least how I put my votes in, is for those I felt contributed the most to the site in their own ways. Not for those who I think would be most likely to win, or who I like the most.
Yeah, I had trouble casting votes. I had to mull over about 7 different names in my head. Like everything on here, it's just for fun.
So it's a popularity contest. Or poll. So. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. As long as everyone can be mature and friendly about it, it can be a fun way to make somepony feel good. Of course, in defense of Echo's point of view, there are some people who just can't handle losing. And when they put up a big fuss, it ceases to be fun. :/
Or....and this is me. Some people that don't wanna win or place or anything for that matter. I think all popularity contest are just crap anyway.
