I find it fascinating to learn about what people used to be obsessed about before ponies, which often seems even more trivial. For example I used to be obsessed with ThatGuyWiththeGlasses.com, which is a comedy video reviewing website and for 2 years straight I tried to make reviews and become a part of their mane cast, with no success. I also dreamed about how cool it would be to be a part of their collaboration productions and gain online fame. But I eventually realised I did not have the on camera charisma to get anywhere with this despite great editing skills and access film equipment. I have then decided to mostly focus on video work that involves not showing my face on camera. What about the rest of you, what were you obsessed with before ponies?
I used to be a die hard Bleach fan but since the original story ended I lost intrest. Then I started playing A LOT of videogames, mostly WoW. This was my schedule, wake up at 12:00 noon, play until dinner, eat at 5:30 ish, play to 3-6 AM, rinse and repeat with an intermission with a punching bag for about 1 hours every day or two.
Well, in terms similar to My Little Pony, I was a die hard Mass Effect fan. I completed the second game multiple times on insanity (before my PS3 broke, losing all my data), and was heavily into the community. I'd spend a lot of my time watching videos on YouTube, looking at fan art, and lurking the forums. I of course also spent a lot of time on the actual game. Seriously, I racked up about 50 hours. I'm still very excited for the release of number 3. However, the one thing that I associate myself with the most is urban art. I've loved it ever since I was little. I grew up in one of the most dangerous places in Wales, so things like street art, drugs and crime were all around me (seriously, if you search for news stories from 'Llanrumney', you'll find a lot of stories involving murder, rape and child abduction. There's a reason my mum wanted us out there). However, I was a smart enough kid, and avoided all the other stuff. My uncle, who also lived in Llanrumney, was an established graffiti artist, and that really cemented it for me. I was amazed at how the people associated with vandalism and trespassing were in fact genuine artists, and nice peole too. I simply fell in love with how real and expressive it was, and also at how opressed it was by authorities. I've always had a 'route for the underdog' mentality, and I also just agreed with it. It's not just graffiti though. Urban art is a huge and varied art form. I've always had a fascination with the abandoned man made objects in rural areas. Since I was a kid, I've been able to see the beauty of a derelict train depot in the middle of nowhere, or an abandoned maintenance tunnel under a motorway. It's just a big thing in my life. I guess it's an obsession with art more than anything, just not typical art. tl;dr Mass Effect, but mostly art.
I was obssed with mythical creatures all of them, had a magasine delivered every two weeks called beasts and beings, then I got bored and grew obssed with fanfiction lmao
Everything Silent Hill. I've spent many hours speculating story lines and plot twists over and over... But then the ponies came, and they hit me hard. Now I fall a sleep thinking about ponies instead of grimdark stuff, and I sleep a whole lot better :F
I liked a lot of things, like anime and the sort... But my main obsession was Pokemon! I had tooons of the cards, read the manga, watched the series (up to diamond and pearl in a week, from the start ) Played the games, blah blah blah blah.... I guess my other obsession would be making card/board games... (I haven't done it in a while though) Not cool or really great ones, just obviously homemade ones. I've been doing it since... forever really, I'm a huge TCG addict! XD And I guess I was pretty obsessed with mythology and history, too... still am as well.
I used to do that back in high school for 1-4. As much as I love the series, the past few titles have been disappointing an I'm hoping they end the series after Downpour and the multi-player title is finished. That aside, I've spent the past couple of months in SWTOR beta. That and I was watching BSG. Made it to the start of season 3 and couldn't get back into it.
Um lets see, I tryed really hard to get a lets play channel going. Green lantern comics, I just LOVE everything about it. Punk music Not the most obbessed with punk and my channel but they ate a lot of my time. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
I used to be a WOW addict too. but my crappy ISP decided not to be compatible with it any more, little did I realise how much of a good thing this was. Since I was forcefully removed from WOW, by life has been so much more productive, even before ponies. Never get sucked into WOW it is not worth it. Spoken from a genuine past WOW addict. I had a level 85 Hunter and Priest. Even now I feel a pull to go back to that time waster of a game. NO! Ponies are better!
Bah, four years ago, I used to spend 25 hours every week on just raiding alone in WoW. I enjoyed it at the time but I shutter now thinking about how much time I spent playing that game. I've actually made some close friends from WoW however and that alone has barred me from calling it a complete waste. Still... so many hours.
Before ponies...hmmm... Well, I was definitely into Naruto. I was fantatically devoted to my PS3 and all my games. I was big into Marvel too...though I've never read a comic book. Also Disney, because nostalgia. I've memorized every song...
I actually referenced this in the thread "What will we do after ponies?," but my previous obsession was the webseries Red vs Blue.
I enjoy Disney Nostalgia. I love Kingdom Hearts and the work of POGO or *squee!*gotron on youtube. He makes remixes of disney movie soundtracks.
