So apparently there were alot of mixed feelings towards Rarity's appearance in the latest episode (S3E06). A number of people are saying that Rarity choosing to join their camping trip at all was her way of generosity and sharing by doing something she absolutely despises just to please her sister. Also showing continuity of the Sisterhooves Social event. Another group is saying her behaviour throughout the entire episode was barely if not less than acceptable. These two sides of Rarity are reflected in alot of episodes, some more than others. Which side do you agree with more?
Personally, I dislike Rarity more than I like her. Haven't seen the latest episode yet, so i can't comment on her recent behaviour, but I've found that she isn't always as generous as she should be. Just my personal opinion. Don't let it change any of your opinions on her.
Answer: A BIT OF BOTH! I think what makes the series great is the fact the ponies arn't always in tune with their element, there still learning and growing as the show goes on, slowly becoming one with the element they represent.
well, she did over do almost everything in last episode, but that has become kind of her trademark. Nopony is perfect, as we can see trough various episodes (not even Twilight).
If any of the characters were always good, there would be no area for development. The flaws will stay. But on topic - generous. On starting to like Rarity. Her snobbishness is humorous.
Out of all the ponies, I'd say Rarity is the most...."human". She has the trait of not liking dirt and wanting everything to be nice and pretty, but that's just more having a good taste and wanting a high quality of life, as well as sometimes being a flaw in that she won't participate in most manual labour. That isn't to say she's lazy though, she's dedicated to her fashions as shown in both Sisterhooves Social and Sleepless in Ponyville, and works hard in the area she's best in. She made Twilight a dress (although she procrastinated, again, relatable, she learnt from her mistake), she joined Sweetie Belle in the social despite it going against everything she personally likes, she made all the dresses for the ponies for the wedding etc etc, so she's still generous. It would be hard for her not to be generous considering that's her element. And her ladylike stature is humorous when it needs to be.
I honestly love her personality. I can be like that sometimes... just not so ladylike. She's never asked her friends for anything, I think generosity fits her just fine. I'd like to think of her as special, not too many people have her as a favorite as one of the main six. Like everypony, she's very special in her own way. It's all opinion for everyone else though. ^ 3^/) She's my second favorite pony in the series. Mainly because I admire her generosity. :3
Rarity is my favorite Mane Six pony so i'm not going to diss or hate on her but she is The Element of Generosity and of course she has her moments were she doesn't stick to her Element of Harmony but she has a whole lot more moments were she does and that on top of the fact that she has several of the most famous and funny lines in the show on top of that beautiful singing voice is why she is my favorite Mane Six pony.
I vote for "generous", but there really should be an option for both. Rarity is my 3rd favorite. I think her "stuck-up" behavior is funny.
Well from her perspective the height of generosity is a free hooficure... so she's very generous. Plus she walks around naked...
Both, of course. It is evident throughout the episode how close she has stayed with Sweetie Belle, which means Sisterhooves Social changed her pretty permanently. On the other hand, she didn't really help out at all, and Sweetie Belle had to literally lug her around. Rarity is a stuck-up lady with a big, big heart.
Everyone already knows I wholeheartedly disapprove of how she had the nerve to force Sweetie Belle to pull her stuff that she insisted on bringing. I felt so bad for Sweetie, she was sweating so badly... D: Honestly, it's simple courtesy to take care of your own things. If you want to bring a lot, you carry it, and since she has telekinetic powers, I don't see why she didn't. That said, she has some really good moments, and she seems to learn from her lessons more than anyone else save maybe Twilight. She can be very generous, but I find she doesn't show it as often as I'd expect given it's her Element of Harmony (I have this same problem with Dash and Loyalty). I'm not a fan of her drama queen nature. I know it's a joke to the viewer and all, and I find it funny, but in the context of the show, she's being serious when she does it, and I find it a bit cumbersome, personally. Oh, and she manipulated that poor, "ugly" pony out of his asparagus. I don't fault her much for it since she paid for it, but it still caused some pause. If there were an option for both, I'd choose it, but since it's just the two, I say "stuck-up."
Just went out of my way to watch the episode now to see what people were talking about. Rarity didn't need to be in this episode. lol She has her ups and downs like every pony; some parts of her character get flanderized while others get forgotten or diminished. I think this is an artifact of having lots of different writers taking turns at doing the episodes. I admit I didn't like Rarity much here either. The writer was probably just highlighting what he thought stuck out most about her character to give her minor (very minor) role in it more impact, and I think he could have done a better job. He didn't highlight anything silly or cute about her character the way she's been in the past. Rather than have her enslave Sweetie Belle she could have just panicked about dirt or something like she usually does. Or have her whip out a fancy table with a full-course dinner instead of eating campfire-roasted marshmallows. Or maybe she could have even told her own horror story about the evil ghost butler who spills juice on unsuspecting ponies' ball gowns! "What, have you ever tried to get out cranberry stains? Those are a real nightmare!" So yeah, I can't really cast a vote here on what Rarity's character in this episode means to me. If I could add a third option it'd be "poorly executed." She just wasn't herself.
You know, I was thinking about this yesterday afternoon and I have come to some conclusions:In my eyes, Rarity isn't much stuck-up, but quite self-centered, and to me the two words don't really share a lot in common. We have seen her generosity quite a lot in the (early) first season, such as the episode where she invite Fluttershy to a spa.The reason I say she is self-centered is probably because of what she resembles: beauty. When one sees herself as beautiful, they can sometimes subtract themselves from the world and her friends and focus only on herself. It is good, in my opinion, to focus on yourself sometimes, think about what you can do for the world, which was what Rarity has been doing sometimes, designing clothing for her friends and other foals of Ponyville. But of course, when one indulges in her beauty too much or too often, she can appear a little stuck up, but that's not Rarity's persona; I don't think she means to act that way, or else she wouldn't stand very well as the generous of the mane 6.
LOVE Rarity. I think she really is generous, but can slightly be stuck up sometimes. No biggie though, she's a great Pony!
It seems you're forgetting episodes such as A Dog and Pony Show and Sisterhooves Social or even Sweet and Elite those episodes made me really love Rarity.
