It's that time of week again, and time for another Community Post brought to you by Yetione. This week was little bit slow due to everypony being busy with Christmas, but we don't stop there. Don't forget folks, Secret Santa Redux is due 2nd of January, so if you didn't finish your gifts yet, better not procrastinate any further. Rarit E is coming back to staff as our new/old moderator. Welcome back to the team Rarit E. Also, forum will be closed within next few days due to maintenance and forum re-organization. There will be yellow notice on top of forum few hours before, so you'll know to prepare yourselves. Spike fan? Or maybe Applejack fan? Somepony else? Some dragon else? Doesn't matter, everypony is welcome to discuss tomorrow's episode here. Everypony Radio is starting with a new podcast. Friendship Cannon Podcast. It'll be show mainly made for Everypony community and where anypony from Everypony Network can join (applications to my inbox after which I'll interview you. ) This week, pilot episode introducing new podcast. That's it for this week. See you all around the forum until next week.
I moved said posts to a new thread. Feel free to continue the discussion there. http://www.everypony.com/forums/showthread.php?8926-About-site-updates
Why? What could possibly be said that would reverse or even cause the others to question this decision. Nothing, there is nothing that I can say right now to do that. I will say that I do not like this choice, but that holds little to no value. So with that all said, enjoy this gif of Zack Galifianakis and a pug
I think you misunderstood Yeti about that. What he said is in a few days, Mike will close the forums for a while in order to prevent errors while he's moving some forums around. I suspect it won't take more than an hour of downtime.
Yo, guys, seriously. Your whole claims of godmoddin' n' crap got old the moment you started saying it. I'm not trying to be rude, but what exactly have you guys done to improve the site? Have you ever actually tried to give positive staff input? Tried to give the staff ideas as to what should be done? Rarit has done more for the site than you guys ever have. If you want to mistake that as godmodding, go right ahead. You're wasting your time with that. I'm glad to have him back on the team because it means we have someone who 100% of the time shows results. Something of which a few people here (Including myself admittedly) have not done. Rarit clearly cares for the site, and that's why he's a part of the team. Everything he does is a reflection of what the staff wants. So we're all godmodders then. Perhaps if you guys stopped getting into so much trouble, there wouldn't be this mess. To the subject at hand, I'm glad that some of these changes are happening with the site soon. Been a long time coming.
Rarit E has done a lot for the site, yes. As an advice provider, he's good. But as a moderator, he's bad. That is without argument. So not what the community wants, is that what you're saying? Perhaps if you stopped saying such offensive, unevidenced claims, there wouldn't be this mess. I seldom get into trouble, and I find it disgusting that you even suggest I do so.
Well... ya got me there. But sometimes the right decisions aren't the most popular ones. I can't argue that some of the stuff we've decided has been against the judgement of the community, but the bottom line is that we, as staff, have to make the right decisions, and not always the most popular one. It's just the way things go.
I don't think saying "It's just the way things go" is a good way to justify an argument. But moreso, this is an issue we've come across time and time again on this site. The wants of the community vs the needs of the site. Yes, while there are many times both are one and the same, there are other times when the opposite is true, this is one of those times. Rarit E was brought back, simply put, because he did his job and he did it well. In terms of moderation, I can't speak personally on that because I've never been on the receiving end and putting my two cents in wouldn't be fair. Where he shines is in the midst of discussion, ideas, and staff work. There have been significantly less troublemakers roaming about the site recently and less of a need for moderation, however, the constant need for somebody to help build up the site's foundation is consistently looming and this is where his rehiring comes into play; by public opinion, he's not good at what isn't needed at the moment, but he /is/ good at what we do need and thus he's been rehired to help take care of that. If that's not enough to justify my decision, moderation can be in itself moderated, there are those who watch the watchmen.
I don't see why some of you people are so up in arms over something that has already been decided, I honestly don't care as long as whatever job he does gets done and we as the community can see that work. Now, on the CP, can't wait to see the changes Mike is bringing in, should help a lot.
