They don't necessarily have to watch the show to be a brony You can easily as well learn about the show through fan content Although not knowing some of the main characters would apply them to be considered "fake" Leave em be
fake bronies are a thing? Odd ._. With all the flack that bronies receive, I can't figure why somebody would go out of their way to fake being a fan. If they really exist, then I'll just shrug and keep them at a distance. Their thought-process must be pretty strange, best if we just carry on without interfering in their twisted affairs. Most of them are probably just trolls seeking attention anyway, and we know better than to feed a troll.
Since i became a brony, my friends have become interested in the show and we have hung out and talked about the show and watched episodes and such. Then another guy who was a "friend" decided that it was ok to try to "fit in" with us which we were not ok with because: He didnt know anything about the show He didnt know anything about the fandom and what it could offer He thought we were dumbass girly *squee!*s for watching it after the whole ordeal when we told him. He didnt make and effort to even try to become one when he wanted to "fit in" Well we are still friends but he isnt a brony... Or at least a fake brony
My only problem with the supposedly "fake" bronies, are when they go around saying they are bronies, so they like to go around doing inappropriate or mean things and that gives us a bad look. Like this one "brony" on youtube who posts nasty videos of himself that you can't view unless over 18 (or whatever the age is for that on youtube..) . He justs posts titles on his videos saying "This is what being a brony is" then does nasty things. But as long as someone isn't out affecting other people or making them look bad, etc, I don'treally care. Heck maybe he just likes cartoon ponies on his shirts? Fluttershy is pretty adorable.
Sometimes, I do feel like a faker I don't have any merch, nor do I go around talking about it with friends. All I ever do is watch the show and draw fan art of it. But to answer your question, no I have not met a fake brony...yet.
Not buying merch and going around doesn't make you a "true" fan Nor does it make you "fake" if you don't Doing that stuff is entirely upon the person Si
Honestly, there are people that call themselves bronies and wear the merch just for the attention it gathers. I've met a few people who have never heard of the show, never learned the characters. BUT they buy the shirts, and walk around with em and call themselves them bronies just for the attention. It bothers me, but I love and tolerate the shiz out of them by ignoring em.
Heh, I sometimes feel like that as well I don't have any merch (though I'd probably buy shirts, if I find any around here, I'd like to have some.), and all I do is watch the show and talk about it. *derp* Makes me wish I sometime would bother learn how to make a proper video, or music, or drawings. Anyway, to answer the question...nope, haven't met a "fake" brony.
I'm referencing the people who HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN THE SHOW. I think they are also, I'm not too sure about the rest. If you have at least watch a few episodes of the show, you're cool on my watch
99% of the Bronies on Equestria Daily overly whining and *****ing over the Alicorn Twilight thing... I call them not Fake Bronies, but Man-Child Bronies
I sometimes do the same as the so called "fake" bronies just to fit in. It's not hurting anybody, now is it? No. It's not. So love MLP and move on with your MLP lovin' life. THE END!!!!.
Hmm. All fandoms/sub-cultures experience people like that. I concur with the people who say that its the sort of thing that can only annoy you if you allow it. Though I should point out I have met one or two. No bad done either way. xD
I don't get...are these the "hipster bronies" they mentioned in the brony documentary? What's the point of watching a show if you don't actually like it? I could actually see people who've never seen the show wearing MLP merch, after all I used to wear t-shirts with skateboard company logos and I've never skateboarded. But that was kinda the popular thing to do in highschool, I don't really see wearing pony merch to help you fit in... Oh well. What other people do is not really my problem.
Well, I can't claim to understand that. I mean, why be a part of a fandom, or associate with said fandom, if you don't like the source material? There are also people who like the fan content, but don't really watch the show (like BronyDanceParty), which seems strange to me, too. I mean, it may very well be that there's some amazing Homestuck content out there, but since I'm not into Homestuck itself, the fandom and its content doesn't interest me much and I certainly wouldn't identity myself as a Homestuck or anything like that. That being said, just leave him be. It's his choice, nebulous though his intentions may be. It's really not a big deal.
