I'm not sure if this is really worthy of discussion or if this is even the right place to post this, but I just wanted to talk about some of the weirder things concerning merchandise. Looking into it, I was quite surprised how many of the stranger toy concepts made it into the show one way or the other. For example: - Butterfly-winged ponies While I still don't get why they made a toy Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy like that (they are pegasi already after all), we have seen Rarity using wings like these. - Glow-in-the-dark blindbags Unicorns can make their horns glow. As for Pinkie Pie... well, she's Pinkie Pie. Don't question it. - Crystal blindbags Crystal Ponies were introduced in Season 3. - Metallic blindbags Sort of brought up with the help of gold dust on both Sweetie Belle and Applejack. - Short haircut blindbag Fluttershy Kind of. Free Foal Press once claimed that Fluttershy uses tail extensions. Maybe the same is true for her mane? A bit far fetched, maybe, but who knows? - Pink Celestia Not directly, but it can be assumed that this was the inspiration for Cadance's design. That's quite a lot. And then one of the later blindbag series gives us translucent ponies. Makes you wonder if they'll appear in the show, too. Ghost ponies in season 4? Not as unlikely as one might think. Speaking of oddities: View attachment 6435 That's not quite the same Granny Smith we know and love. I've never seen that vector before, though. Does Hasbro even know what the characters are supposed to look like? Sometimes, I'm not so sure...
Granted, all merchandise comes from Hasbro Canada, while Hasbro Hub is based elsewhere. Miscommunications are a must!
They once said something about granny Smith being the daughter of Apple Jack and her husband Big Mac. Yep, they make some weird mistakes. This happened a while ago now too, but they mixed Soarin' up with Spitfire I think Hasbro is just very very clumsy. xD Anywho, the Rarity with butterfly wings, I can see, but for many of the other ones.... Eeeeeeyyydddduuuunnnnoooooo... To comment on the Princess Celestia one, she is pink in the show, isn't she? A very very light shade of pink, but pink nonetheless... I'm sure of it.
As an artist, eyedropping her pallete produces a near-white. Actually, in the MLP Game App, Celestia gives ponies butterfly wings when they go through the leveling up mini-game. I mean, unless you're a pegasus... then you already have wings.
Yeah, I consider Celestia to be a very light shade of pink, mostly due to her outline being pink. It's nowhere as pink as her original toy design, though. I heard that some dubs made Spitfire sound like a guy, but this is ridiculous.
The short haired Fluttershy blind bags are like that because they used the Rainbow Dash mold for her, just like they used the Twilight Sparkle mold for Trixie. It's all about saving money. The crystal blind bags you speak of are not crystal blind bags. They're glittery. They have nothing to do with the crystal empire part of the show. However, they did make a Target exclusive Crystal ponies set, which is the same thing just slightly darker in color. That was based off the Crystal Empire. The metal and glow in the dark blind bags are just different kinds of chase pieces, they used glittery chase pieces in previous sets. The rest can prolly be attributed to the either whoever designs the toys or whoever makes the toys not really being on the same page with the show. *shrugs*
80% of the time Rainbow Dash's cutie mark is backwards. This bothers me, or at least it's always the first thing I notice.
Oh. Wow. So... you thought I was actually serious about Fluttershy's blind bag toy? Uhm, okay then? Oh yeah, that too. And while we are talking about cutie marks, how difficult can it be to give Cheerilee her correct mark instead of recycling, as I presume, a previous generation Cheerilee's mark?
Ah, this REALLY annoyed me when I got my first brushable... :S They could fix it so easily, and yet they just leave it. The lazies
You asked, I answered. How am I supposed to know if you are or are not being serious? This is all text, I can't hear you or see you, so joking or sarcasm usually has to be a bit more pointed than in real life. Otherwise people think it's a legit question. *shrugs* Not a big deal either way.
Funny, I don't remember asking any questions about why Fluttershy's blind bag toy looks the way it does. I know I didn't use a giant smiley to indicate the joke, but neither did I use a question mark. So yeah, sorry, but the possibility of someone even considering this to be question, legit or not, didn't even occur to me. I guess I'll never get the subtleties of the English language...
Yeah, It came off as being a serious question to me too. And if I'm looking in the correct place, you did ask a question- Two, in fact.
Yes - one about ghost ponies, and the other about Hasbro not knowing what the characters look like relating to the weird Granny Smith vector. Still nothing about Fluttershy, unless I'm mistaken. Thank you.
