Mine has bad magic, lol. I wish I'd known ahead of time how much I'd be using him for his magic. I've never not needed a well-placed lightning bolt. I've also never not needed Sumia but dang archers.
Mine has okay magic. 7 at level 9. He has 9 strength though, and I believe 16 speed. He's a monster paired with, say Vaike for +5 str and +2 def. Ahhhh Donnel. It sure does feel good and hear 8 pings upon leveling up.
Donnel was hell to recruit. It took me no less than all day to beat that chapter. >_o I better be getting another Nephenee for that kind of trouble.
