So, a while back I got this cute messenger bag from WeLoveFine. Along with it, I received a card (which I since misplaced) wich said that the bag was as fragile as gossamer, and that I should never ever wash it, even by hand. You can imagine how paranoid I've been ever since about any kind of substance coming in contact with my precious Derpy bag. However, Murphy's law being what it is, I'm almost certain there will come a time when I'll have to clean it. And this is where I turn to you for advice. In the event that my messenger bag gets dirty, how should I clean it? What method do you use to clean yours? Is it even possible to clean it? And, lastly, what would happen if I just stuck it in the washing machine?
Cotton canvas? Should be just fine. If you're paranoid, go with the "Permanent Press" options, usually for more fragile materials. (Also known as cold/cold mode.) (Note: I've never owned one, but that's what I'd do for cotton canvas.)
Well i dont have one, but i have a little experience in cleaning stuff... When it says neer even clean it by hand, your washing machine will most likely destroy it in some way. It also depends on what dirt is on there. If its just a small spot try using a sponge that is just a little moist, with water that is room temperature. Still im not sure if there still could happen something to it. But normally even though you lsot the card, you can still email welovefine and ask them about it. I guess they know best. Also there may be the posiblitiy of a little "flag" inside the bag somewhere, where you can see how to wash it.
I'd check the welovefine site for the bag, they prolly have a digital copy of the card on there. Or washing instructions may be somewhere else on the site. It prolly says not to wash it because 100% wool will shrink very easily, remember Rarity's sweater that Sweetie Belle hung out to dry? You can prolly find safe ways to wash 100% wool garments online.
This is pretty much what I've been thinking, but if I ever have to clean it, I want to be 100% sure that what I'm doing won't destroy the bag. Which I paid for. With money. I don't recall that card having anything on it other than "DO NOT WASH OR YOU'LL REGRET IT" (paraphrased). However, I am considering e-mailing WeLoveFine sometime in the future if I don't hear from somebody who already has this bag and knows how to clean it. On second thought, I'll probably email them anyway when I have the time. Also, I'm pretty sure that I can get washing instructions for the fabric from pretty much anywhere, but I'm more concerned about the print. I have no idea what it is, but it seems pretty fragile.
