Ive heard somewhere that we are falling apart. The community as a whole. Ive heard bronies cancelled a documentary or something? Ive heard the people who make the show are mad at us. Ive seen a list somehwere of how the bronies are falling apart and stuff. I dont want it to thought. I really like the community. I dont know if that stuff is true though. But guys, is the community falling??
The community has been divided into fans of MLP and annoying fanatics of MLP. The annoying fanatics complain, very loudly, about things they don't agree with and what they want from the people who make the show. Twilight the alicorn and Equestria Girls are just the most recent flareups. I've also noticed that people have been a lot more....venomous, when it comes to the creative side of the fandom. There's always people complaining about artists and complaining about musicians and complaining about certain aspects of the fandom that they don't like. It's fine to not like something, but the amounity of acidic rage that has slowly built up is just becoming VERY noticible. So yeah, unless people take the world's biggest chill pill, the fandom as a whole is in a sticky situation. I say, like the show and don't be a whiney crybaby about a cartoon. :3
From what I hear, this is all Hasbro's fault. A lot of bronies are worried about making pony related stuff because they don't want to be attacked by them. This, so much.
Some people just don't like the show anymore. As in "stuff got old". Which leads to some of the more hardcore bronies to get obsessed with keeping as many people hooked on the show for the sake of keeping the numbers of bronies up... It's gotten kind of disturbing, which also causes more people to quit the fandom. Basically there's two groups now: - The people saying "Get real and deal with it." - The people saying "OMG BR0N13S 4EVER!!!" I'm tired of the obsession, so i left the fandom for the most part. I'm one of the people saying "Get real and deal with it."
I've said this many times, but I'll just say it again. I think people are finally taking off their pony goggles and realizing that the Fandom is NOT a shining paragon of equality and justice. It's just a bunch of adult males who like a TV show, and therefore, people are finally starting to realize that they are different instead of the same. Which is both a good and a bad thing.
Honestly, I don't think we are falling apart, every fandom has is moments, and as such we, as a community, are going through a moment that was sparked by the Twilight Alicorn thing. Yes people are always complaining about X, Y, Z, but thats been there always and its just now with the flare up of complaints about the Twi-alicorn stuff that people are focusing on the complaining about everything. It's natural for a fandom to go through this. Honestly once that Episode of Alicorn twilight comes and goes ,just like ever other season finale, people will pipe down realizing it wasnt as bad or what they expected before. I personally don't agree with Twilight Alicorn thing until I looked into it a bit more. SURE, Ill poke fun at it and all, but I dont care cause I trust the writers like a good majority of bronies do. WE just need to stop focusing on the bad, stop letting those who complain over everything (brony nazi's anyone), have a greater voice then we do, the bronies that actually stick with the Fandom, community, whatever, through thick and thin.
The first thread I saw about the fandom falling apart was sometime in 2012 I think. The big brony group hug that the fandom was in 2011 is no more, that's for sure. But by no means is the entire fandom falling apart. A fandom is a collection of people who are all fans of a common thing. So as long as there are people who are fans of MLP, the fandom will live on. Eventually this whole thing will become some obscure fad, the object is to try and enjoy it while it's here, and remember the good times after it's gone. 'Tis life.
This is one of my posts from another thread that is similar. I still maintain the above point, BUT I have an extra thing to add based on Trance Kuja's post. Trance be right: If someone wants to stop watching, LET THEM GO. It doesn't matter. Because if your clinging onto them, trying to convince people to stay... Well come on, seriously? Do you really care if someone stops watching the show THAT much. Is it of utmost importance that you and others maintain the same opinion on the show? I mean, if it really bothers you that much that Brony's are leaving, than that's bad... And very very suffocating.
I would agree with Emperor Mateus on this statement. Getting involved with a fandom is like marriage - you have the honeymoon, which is all happiness and rose-tinted. Then it becomes normal to you, and you go through all the joys and pains of being in it. That said, I don't think the fandom is falling, dying, or any of that drama that a lot of fans are saying. This is just the natural life of being a fan. If anything, this fandom is so different and impactful, I doubt it will die anytime soon (not that it can, I'll explain that soon). Star Trek is still alive, and its been going on for decades - and so has Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons, Mega Man, Anime, Twilight(unfortunately, haha)... the list goes on. Being in a "dead" fandom myself (Ecco the Dolphin fandom), I can personally say that fandoms never actually "die", they only hibernate until they catch on again (take Sherlock Holmes for example). Basically, this fandom won't die. Plain and simple. (extra information here, but this is what a quote on quote "dead" fandom looks like: http://www.arkonviox.com/ Truth be told, fandoms never die.)
Yeah. Something magical happened on 4Chan that day. A lot of people call that strange. You wanna know what I say to those people?: "Have you seen 4Chan? Compared to some of the weird **** they usually get into, Ponies is NOTHING"
Star Wars: "OMG! HAN SHOT FIRST!! GEORGE LUCAS RAPED MY CHILDHOOD!!!" Star Trek: "J.J. ABRAMS MADE THE WORST STAR TREK MOVIE EVER, I CAN'T STAND THIS NEW MOVIE, IT'S A PIECE OF CRAP!!!" Harry Potter: "THE BOOKS WERE WAAAAYYYYYY BETTER AND THESE MOVIES ARE HORRIBLE!!!" MLP:FIM: "OMG! TWILIGHT HAS WINGS! THE SHOW IS DEAD! THE FANDOM IS DEAD!!!" Yeah... it's just another fandom-quake, y'all. They are bound to happen occasionally. And without a little conflict here and there, we'd all get bored anyway. Let the whiners whine. We can sit back and watch them dig their own graves. They might make the fandom look bad, but we true bronies know better. Every family has "that one guy" who nobody wants at the reunion, and those obsessive fans are that guy. However, I find I lose no sleep over the fact that they exist. I merely abide with a rebel-shrug and continue to be my brony-tastic self l-)
Take a look at us here....at EQD...bronies are still there and loving each other and loving the show and that's what matters ^_^
Its funny it seems that every time i join a fandom or a group of something it always starts to fall apart just as i join... and it kinda ticks me off. But at least im not freaking out about Twilight becoming an Alicorn or something like that. If the fandom falls apart or Hasbro stops making the show or something like that than we should just get over it...and i dunno go to a new fandom.
It's not gonna fall apart. MLP had a huge fanbase before us, and they didn't make anything new for YEARS!
All fanbases have rough patches, and people online these days just like the be whiny lil ****z and Drama queens, Many many other fanbases have been through far far worse and are still around, A fan-base is like an idea, once its there you can't destroy it, sure it will grow & shrink over time, but never go away, at least not completly. If anything all this chaos right now is good, the whiny willies will be gone by the end of the year and those left can enjoy the show! Its a win-win!
