I dont think Lauren Faust would have been able to make a difference, after all, Hasbro just about ordered this Spoiler: BAM
Agreed. I don't get it. 4 princesses? How does that make any sense? The other members of the Mane 6 bowing down before Princess Sparkle? How does that seem right? Then, if you caught what Celestia said in her little song, that it was time for her to follow her own path, go and do what she will and whatnot. So how does that jive for her staying with her friends? I know Tara has already said that she will stay with her friends, and Twilight saying at the end, "everything will be just fine" definitely makes it seem like she will, but I don't see how they'll be able to go back to normal after this. And if they do, that just wouldn't make sense. I dunno. I'm really on the fence about this one, honestly I was hoping the wings would just be temporary. - Oh, and for all intents and purposes, this episode was a musical. Doesn't make very much sense to call it anything else, considering that 90% of the dialogue was singing.
When it comes to the songs, does that mean that Les Miserables is terrible and pointless just because they sing everything? There's songs in that which are just meant to drive the story along, not be super amazing, and that's exactly the same case in this episode. True True Friend is probably one of the most heart-warming moments in MLP I've ever seen, and the nostalgia in Celestia's song was breath-taking. They could have just done a traditional episode, but they didn't. My Little Pony is tiny in TV terms, it's not on the radar for almost anything. Yet the studio produced almost 6 entire songs. All that effort, for one episode, to make it something special for their fans. Slam it all you like, but real thought and care went into the musical part of this one. Unlike Raise This Barn which was just like "Let's squeeze it out to get these bronies to stop pestering us." And how dare anybody slam the writers for alicorn Twilight, or say that Faust is the only person who could have prevented it. Studio B/DHX have poured their goddamn hearts out into this finale, they could have made it crap, but they didn't, they made the best out of a bad situation. Anyone who thinks they wanted Twilight to be an alicorn are very very wrong. Hasbro forced the situation upon them. Derpy's little wink, and the amount of times they've mingled with fans are just proof of how much they care for us. They've got all the crap out the way with the fan service and what Hasbro want, now they can finally focus on their own ideas that made the show good, again. And hey, it's not as doom and gloom as some people are making it out to be. She has wings now. So what. You really think this character, who the animators and writers have developed themselves, is going to forget the whole "friendship is magic" thing, and look down upon her friends? No. Just no. She might have a few more princessy tasks, but she's always been the most powerful unicorn, and she's always been the definitive leader of the mane six. For those who are getting their knickers in a twist and are making a big drama out of "leaving the fandom", stop it, it's a kids show, you want to stop watching, for god's sake just stop watching. I could give less of a crap, once you stop watching the show, it doesn't mean you can't start watching again, or that you're sooooo mature and have moved on, you've just stopped watching a TV show, simple as. The drama is pointless. And for what it's worth, for god's sake, it's My Little Pony, you wouldn't think it's meant to be this good of a show in the first place when you hear that name. Be grateful it's been amazing most of the time at all. /rant
I was actually interested in Twilight becoming an alicorn and I still found this episode disappointing. Everything about it just seemed rushed, weak, and I daresay unneeded. The episode seemed more like a pair of 11 minute shorts that didn't really have anything connecting them together except the fairly weak plot point that Twilight wrote her own magic. It was very rushed and everything was just sort of glanced over, and the large amount of songs certainly did not help with the pacing. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to me either...why was it just now that Twilight became an alicorn after she already did so much? It was loosely explained through song I suppose, but just giving an explanation doesn't solve anything if the explanation doesn't make sense. So yeah, I don't really know what to think about the fourth season. If Hasbro would stop getting in the way and just let the show's potential come to light it would be quite good, but it seems that they have just become more and more pushy. As for alicorn Twilight, I am indifferent if she stays or she goes, although I do think it would be a very touching episode if she made the choice to revert back to a regular unicorn.
The episode was even better the second time. @Snow Your title goes nicely with your avatar, though I'm sure that was intended.
Remember when everyone on EP deserved respect? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Seriously though, I'm loving this new "if you don't agree with my opinion then why not just get the hell out" thing you guys got going on here. Has a real 'everypony is somepony' feel to it.
I know what you mean. I lament the loss. Perhaps it's because today's episode is more polarizing than almost any others. To those who are being too serious about all this (and really to everybody that aren't as well):
Bronies are a passionate bunch. That's what I love about 'em. We've got the best music, the best fanimations, the best fan art, and the best fan fics. I definitely don't mind the spirited discussion about the episode, especially about something as huge to the fandom as the transformation of its character, Twilight Sparkle. Who doesn't love that little egghead?? I'm not going to say anyone's necessarily over-reacting, but I wish we'd all muscle through this no matter what. It's a very special fandom we're all apart of, and these past few months have been damn tough on us. Fighting is Magic getting C&D'd, Lauren Faust leaving the show, complications regarding the brony documentary, and now all of this controversy, but I'd like to think we've gone through worse. It'd be a shame if we all fell apart now. Maybe the show will change so much when season 4 finally premiers that we might all have to throw in the towel, but until then, are we really going to let Hasbro kill our spirit just because they're flexing their muscles? I'd like to hope not. I can definitely agree with many of the arguments around here about Twilicorn, but I've also gotta give her a chance. Besides, even if things don't go back to normal, what's the big deal? I wouldn't mind seeing what else Equestria has to offer, and Princess Twilight would probably be the best one to do that. I have high hopes. Bring on season 4!
ok time to rate this episode tbh, I didn't like this episode. songs are nice, but way too much singing. Twilight had good gag with books about being a princess, but we still don't know what she will do as princess (except be one). This would be great episode if it was FiM finale, and knowing that there will be season 4, this is basically a big cliffhanger, and leaving fans on a cliffhanger for months is kinda cruel (even anime cartoons that I'd expect to do that don't do it). Pinkie pie had few good gags (like one with water, and one where she was alicorn). Did anyone else notice that Twilight was Earth pony before evolving to alicorn (I suppose that's animation error)? Beginning of episode was too rushed. Instead of fixing it in 3 minutes with one song, they could have had whole episode of funny gags and chaos around ponyville before Twilight fixes it (aka, she fixed it way too easy). The whole princess process was kinda cheesy, and I have feeling that they kinda took idea off (or wanted to make a reference to) South Park Facebook episode (and basically did same mistake as South Park story writers in that episode). overall 3/5, lower tier sorry, but this is my 2nd least favorite episode (just above May the best pet win). edit: just noticed Derpy, so that means she's back. that's plus for them.
