@Brian your getting M.A.Larson & Meghan McCarthy mixed up! XD *larson is a man!* But yeah McCarthy did say she considered this part 1 of a 3 parter, the other 2 parts starting out season 4. @Geo: That would be pretty fun to watch.
The fact that is a musical, I have found helps it a lot in terms of rewatchability (is that a word *Shrugs*) I have watch the first 12 minutes of the episode about 4 times now and even more times while just listening to it in the background. There are actually some episodes of season 2 that I haven't even watched a second time. One the bit with Twilight starts though I stop watching. It's just when the episode stops being fun and more cheesy. It's kind of like it's just there a a teaser for next season. So that you are like, Twilight Alicorn... (End of episode) Darn, so what does that mean?
But mostly pointless. The episode wouldn't have seemed as rushed and forced if they spent more time expanding the story and less time singing.
Yeah, this one was really bad. Like I mean come on, giving Twilight wings? Holy crap, she can fly now, I'm super worried, and all her friends are going to have to bow to her every time they see her, even though they totally don't when they see Princess Cadance or anything. I mean, it's not like she's always been seen as a leader *coughs*WinterWrapUp*coughs* or is the most powerful unicorn currently in Equestria anyway. And making the episode into a musical? How terrible is that, wow, like, 6 whole songs, what a rip-off, I can't believe they hate us that much, it's not like they were trying to do anything special, they're just trying to annoy us omfg. It's not as if Daniel Ingram and Steffan Andrews actually put effort into these songs, heaven forbid, I mean, no TV show as small as MLP has ever done this before, of course they didn't put any effort to make a story out of songs! It's not like they have an IP to appeal to or a company that's breathing down their necks either, noooo, Sibsy, M.A. Larson, Megan McCarthy and stuff totally hate us and don't interact with their fans on Twitter and other social networking sites every day, or haven't snuck in Derpy Hooves despite being specifically warned not to, or made a documentary and put it onto a Blu-ray DVD, like omfg they hate us so much. u have let me down, I'm quitting brony fandom, it used to be abut luv + tolerance butt where did all that go? #saveDerpy #alicornTwilightisSatan #iamsomaturebecausei'vegotthenutstostopwatchingatvshowomg P.S. My Little Pony has always sucked despite the fact I was saying how amazing it was a couple of months ago #I'msocoolfornotbeingbronyanymore Spoiler: ...
I'm pleased the term "alicorn" is now Official Canon. Previously, it'd only ever been used in connection with the Alicorn Amulet. Now we have Rarity and Pinkie very clearly stating that an alicorn is what Twilight is. The uncertainty bothered me for some reason.
Yeah...nobody has said anything exceptionally negative about the finale for like the last three pages, maybe try taking a couple deep breaths. Anyway... Lyra, Bon Bon and Berry! Note to self: Find awesome Lyra pic to use as avatar...
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not mad/worked up at all, just venting my thoughts as food for thought. I won't get angry over something so innocent as a TV show about ponies. Also, nice gif, good to see the Lyra hop again.
I'm on the fence about this episode... it seemed so rushed. The musical idea was fantastic, but the execution was... pitiful, sad to say. I disliked all of the songs (Except Celestia's, and even then, I only liked it, not brought to tears by it like some.) and I disliked the fact that there was literally almost no plot to it. On the other hand, the songs were well integrated into the 'story'. It'd be better if the songs weren't inherently bad though. I love Daniel Ingram's work, but this was a rare exception. Plus, the little nod to the brony drama at the end (Everything will be alright! - Twilight) just kinda felt tacked on, cheesy, and overall stupid. The whole episode was stupid... but it wasn't stupid by it being bad, it was stupid by being poorly executed. Bad would have been there being no direction to anything at all. I also disliked the flashback sequence. It felt like something an amateur film maker would make. Seriously, they could have done way better with that. Even I can go all sepia/black and white and gather a few clips from the show and make a highlight reel of Twilight's accomplishments in slow-ish motion. It's that simple. Which is why it's terrible. Should have been a 2 parter for sure. Final verdict: 4/10. It was underwhelming and so stupid in parts, but at least you could tell they did their best with what they were given. So for that, I'll give it a mental rating of 5/10. As a critic, I just have to give it a 4. I did like how it was going, but it was just so poorly done that I just grew not to care how or why Twilight came to be an alicorn, or how they got their original destinies back. I just plain didn't care about any of that. It was an overall disappointment. My hope for season 4, though, has not dwindled. In fact, it's rekindled, since Hasbro is keeping their fingers out of Season 4. Plus, it's a 26 episode season! Hope for season 4 is here... the finale, however, was stupid.
