Eh...I have mixed opinions. It probably would have been better if they worked it in to to second episode of season 1, or perhaps the very final episode of the whole show down the road. Or maybe they could have incorporated the alicorn aspect but left out Twilight becoming a princess. I'm not as skeptical as some people seem to be about season 3. I actually like it just as much as season 1 and 2. I got a different vibe from S3, but only slightly. Idk, I've always been accepting of new ideas. If they can execute this whole "Twilight as a princess" idea correctly then maybe it will work. If we can learn to look at the upcoming season 4 differently (yes, yes, i know we shouldn't have to) then maybe we can get some good enjoyment out of it. Thoughts?
I am cautiously optimistic. When I first heard of this I found it a bit of a shock and my immediate reaction was "OH NO OH NO OH NO!" I'm just not a fan of a character taking a permanent physical change like that. But after thinking about it and seeing many interesting opinions about it, I'm more on the fence about it now. It could be done well, but we will just have to wait and see. So fat the Season 4 finale has just left us guessing. One thing I am a bit disappointed about is how we see Twilight fly off like a pro at the end of the episode. There was a cute pic I saw that pretty much explains how I think they should have handled it, would have made a good Season 4 opener. https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd....0x480/557971_506352172740270_1445740018_n.png Teaching Twilight about her wings would have made a cute episode. It's also disappointing that the mane cast isn't balanced any more. I'm not talking about OP, Twilight has always been the OP member of the group. I'm talking about it no longer being a well rounded 2 Unicorn, 2 Earth and 2 Pegasi team anymore. Rarity is the Last Unicorn!
I basicly agree with RoyalBiskits and Setzertrancer. Nothing to add really. But I never really understood why ponies made such a fuss about it. With all these theories on how it would ruin season 4 etc. We'll just have to wait and see, it might turn out to be totally epic! Princess Twilight Sparkle sounds awesome to me, atleast. . EDIT: Hmm, yeah, there are alot of topics about this already...
Lauren Faust has stated (see the Brony documentary ext. interviews) that Twilight's destiny was always to succeed Princess Celestia. So I'd say it's right on track with her original vision. Plus it opens up many new possibilities and challenges for the character.
Lauren Faust has also stated she never wanted Twilight to be an alicorn. Celestia's successor, yes. Alicorn, no. That said, I don't have any feelings about it overall. I don't like Hasbro forcing the writers to incorporate something they hadn't planned on, but as for alicorn Twilight, I don't mind in general. I would much prefer her to stay a unicorn though. It balances the whole friend thing better in my opinion. Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
Not exactly, unless you know of a more definitive quote. I probably don't hold Lauren to the place of honor some do, though. She started an amazing show, but I as far as I'm concerned the writers have more than proven themselves since she left.
So i'm the only one here who expected this? Bloody hell i must be psychic. i'm gonna sit in the big chair and GLOAT at you.
I'm pretty sure that I remember one of the writers themselves saying on Twitter that they came up with the idea of Alicorn Twilight, not hasbro's excuetives {Unlike what happend with Cadence and Shinning Armor}. So yes, Alicorn Twilight does have plenty to do with the writers, just not Lauren Faust.
I saw the writer list for the episodes recently. I keep hearing people talk crap about Merriweather for writing 'Mysterious Mare Do Well'. It was a okay episode in my opinion. But she also wrote my favourite episode for Season 2. Hearth's Warming Eve.
I'm sure that I am in the minority when I say I was actually looking forward to it. For me it seemed to open a few doors to the S4 premier. I'm very curious to see where they go with it, what obstacles come with it, and how her friends adjust to Sparky's new status (I can see Rarity getting jealous).
I took a poll about the last episode. When asked to write down extra thoughts I said this. "I just hope that the other mane 5 get just as much focus as this new alicorn character."
I think some change is healthy for a show. I'm not sure how this whole princess thing is going to work out, but her being an alicorn now really isn't that big of a deal. And as good a job as Faust did with S1, she's been out of the driver's seat for awhile now. It doesn't really matter much what she would have wanted, does it? Her quote on twitter is pretty much the best thing she could have said.
