I think it's pretty obvious that the MLP writers are being careful to make sure each villain is distinctive, both in personality and purpose. In fact, one could argue that Chrysalis, Sombra, et al each major on a particular vice that provides both the villain's motivation and an eventual lesson in where those tendencies end. What's intriguing, though, is the way those vices seem to line up and provide contradistinction to particular Elements of Harmony -- and thus to particular ponies. What's the true opposite of jealousy, or recklessness? (I say "kindness" and "loyalty," because it's kindness to be happy for your friends when they succeed, and recklessness is acting with no concern for others.) The point is, the Elements may (consciously or not) be providing key inspiration for these villains. If that's true, we can get an idea of which threat the ponies will next face by looking at the so-far unchallenged qualities. A villain of Gloom would make an excellent counterpoint to Pinkie's Laughter. But what's the opposite of Magic? (Science?) Well, remember, Twilight's Element is really both Magic and Friendship (because Friendship is Magic). So the opposite could simply be Isolation. Hmm, now I'm imagining the reclusive Starswirl the Bearded returns as a clockwork behemoth version of himself...
Best villain ever Although I'm gonna guess Discord is the next villain. Turns out he had his fingers crossed the whole time, muhaha
Sombra may have gone over like a lead balloon, but Chysalis was too popular to never be used again. Even if she's not the next villain, it's likely she'll be back.
The antithesis of Pinkie Pie? Introducing- Butthurt! His special powers are whining about Twilicorn, even after the rest of the fandom has moved on. (Nopony here, but some sites are still going nuts.)
Anypony remember when Bill Clinton took the brony quiz and they mentioned Krastos the Glue Maker? I'm still waiting for that!!!!
I want Chrysalis to make a return, if only so the mane six can check out that wasteland she was blasted off to, Team Rocket style.
Hmm, these ideas are very, very interesting. I too, like Zephyr would love Chrysalis to come back. She was a very intersting villain and one that would be very possible to return and bring a new army of changelings along with her. Of course I would also like to see a completely new villain come into the mix. Sure Discord was the most awesome villain but I don't really see him coming back, he's turned and he seemed rather serious about it. If he would return, the writers should make sure that his return as a villain makes sense, story-wise and character-wise. Oh, and also, King Sombra didn't get enough lines or screen time, what a shame.
I like most people/ ponies here would like to see both King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis to not only return but to team up and sing a duet that would be "so awesome."
Ooh, that's a good one. Fear is sort of a meta-vice. We do so many wrong things because of fear. See, what I'm thinking here is: if the show is about the magic of friendship, then the villains are about the ways friendships can fail. So fear is definitely in there.
