Consider that dogs are much smarter than cows and sheep, why is it that Applejack's livestock can talk, but her dog can't? Furthermore, if speech indicates intelligence, why is Applejack keeping livestock at all? Does this mean that slavery is legal in Equestria?
The answer: Hooves. Hooved animals get smarter the more like ponies they are. The odd exception is pigs. As for livestock, she's keeping them for reasons. And on the subject of slavery, I don't really see that.

It's alright. I might watch an episode now and then, but it doesn't really keep my interest. The first forum I joined was Gaia Online back during its first year. I was really into anime and Japan at the time and so gave myself the name "Densetsuno Ryu no Yami" (I cringe at my past self's lack of understanding of Japanese xD It still works but not in the way I had intended). Everyone took to calling me Yami, so that's what I called myself. At one point I had a girlfriend on Gaia named I believe Auroraookami. Around that time, I decided my username was too long and cumbersome, so I adopted "yamiookami" for her. We broke up, but I had grown to like wolves and so kept the name, which I now use everywhere.
