So yeah, the new pope has been chosen. I figured i might as well make the thread to discuss it. :derpe: I know close to nothing about the guy yet, to be honest. (also, thread title puns ftw )
Apparently Francis the 1st is conservative and from Argentina, which although that makes him the first Pope from outside of Europe, it doesn't help the Church appeal to the younger crowd which is leaving the church in droves
Question... The pope is supposed to be like the embodiment of God on Earth right? Or his voice or something? Soo....why is he elected by humans?
This isn't the Pope I voted for. Sorry Twilight. Also, he's anti-homosexual marriage, against pro choice, and euthanasia too. The world's moving in such a progressive direction no? Why do they even bother electing someone if they don't do anything.... And Francis? Going to be hard to get him into the Vatican if he hates stairs.
This doesn't surprise me. They probably wanted to pick someone who intends to hold strict Christian values. Fear of straying away from tradition would be my best guess.
I, for one, invite Celestia as our new Pope. You'd think they would try a bit harder, though. Seventy six? This guy is ancient! Just look at that beautiful face!

I don't mean to preach, but the whole point of Jesus coming to earth was so that God could have a personal relationship with us. There really is no need for a representative.
Lemme answer Frost's question to the best of my ability: the Pope is NOT the embiodiment of God, only the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit embody God. Pope is chosen to be God's REPRESENTATIVE on Earth, or essentially his go-to messenger, meant to give the Church dircetion and that neat stuff. He is elected because the cardinals are choosing who they think COMMUNICATES the best with God out of them, but God could still 'play a role' by guiding the cardinals dying their vote, at least that's what the cardinals say, could just be their way of re-wording "Dear God I hope I chose the right guy"
I wanted Dolan to win. But he has not won, so I've lost interest in this whole topic. All I know is that the old Pope wrote his resignation letter in Comic Sans, so I have immense respect for the Catholic Church.
