@donwolfani- I wasn't offended by anything you said.

It's interesting to see how many people on here have either social anxiety and/or mental health issues of some sort. I think it's good we have such a good support system. Most fan communities don't have that.

I have some symptoms of aspergers but I'm not sure have I aspergers or not.
When I'm with my friends, I can't think out of theme for conversation so easily. It's surely because of lack of my self-confidence(I'm usually shy). And it can be because I had inflammation of the ear, so I was 80% deaf (now I'm not anymore) till I was 2 years old and my speech was in arrear. But luckily, the older I get, the better communication I have.

Sorry for grammatical errors if they are here.

It's difficult because most of the time, there is no causal link to it. Sometimes you feel bad even if things are going well. You have almost no energy; even getting up and fixing yourself a sandwich or getting a drink is draining. You have poor sleep patterns and nightmares. In severe cases, the feelings of wanting to commit suicide is always hanging over you head even if there is no exact reason why you'd want to die.

Being manic depressive, I had highs were I'll be up for days, I take on to many projects, I'm hyper and talkative. My lows mean I am so exhausted I can barely get out of bed, I'll sleep for days at a time, I don't eat unless someone gives me something and even then there is a distinct lack of appetite. I notice the most when I'm having a bad spell when I'm extremely irritated with my animals. Usually my animals are my stress relief, but when things are bad, I can't even look at them without feeling anger.

Diagnosed depression is a chemical imbalance that affects your thoughts and feelings many times without a trigger. That's why in most cases, medication on a daily basis is the most helpful in maintaining a happy medium in mood. In some cases such as myself, medication either doesn't help or causes a bad reaction.

Having a good support system with mental health issues is important. I luckily have a very good support in my best friend and mother who look for signs of a bad episode and in some cases take care of me during those periods. There is still a stigma behind mental health issues because many people scorn those who just can't seem to 'suck it up'. Judging only makes things worse and I'll admit, I use to as well even though I was dealing with my own issues. Thanks for your comments, happy to answer.

That must have been tough. It's good your getting better at communication. Sometimes you just need to take a leap and say whatever your think whether it might be ridiculous or not and over time you learn not to care what people think. My friend said he had to learn to do that as a kid and he realized, the true friends he had, wouldn't care about whether he stuttered or said something weird. They would care for him no matter what and those who were put off by his words; he decided weren't the sort of people he wanted to be friends with and not caring what those mean people thought, drew the sort of people that respected and cared for him as he was.

I'd like to point out that Asperger's gets thrown around a lot in this day and age. Just about everyone has social anxiety and it doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with the disorder. Meeting people will always be a bit of a leap of faith.

Even if someone is misdiagnosed and simply dealing with social anxiety, I still think this is a good forum for to talk it out. I agree, Aspergers get's thrown around a lot, as does Autism in general. It's the new favorite diagnoses. When you start getting a diagnosis in double digits of the population (they're saying 1 in 88 now), it's being overdiagnosed. But even so, I'm sure talking on an understanding forum is helpful for people who may be shy.

I have Asperger's syndrome but I've long outgrown my social anxiety (the main symptom of asperger's). Speak and move with purpose, focus on the task at hand, say what's on your mind, and most importantly; be yourself.

I have generalized anxiety so there's alot of things I have anxiety over, but social situations really freak me out too. It's really hard for me to talk to new people, it just freaks me out. I don't really have a whole lot of friends at school for this reason. I always worry people are going to judge me, and they usually do because i'm pretty akward and shy around people. I do have a few close friends, however, and i'm very thankful I have them.

I haven't exactly been diagnosed but I do tend to panic and instinctively hide whenever I hear another human being. It's odd because I can go to the store just fine but any other situation I get sort of scared in :sigh:
