The Furry Thread Just what is the "Furry" fandom? And why is it so bizarre yet intriguing? Furry Is a synonym for “cartoon animals” or with the proper term anthropomorphized animal characters. In other words, an animal character given human-like attributes, like speech, anatomy and culture. Now days, Furry fandom is an artistic and literary genre that is practiced and enjoyed by thousands worldwide. It varies from visual art, to music, to fashion and literature. Just as with any fandom there are crowds of talented and creative people that give the fandom its vitality and represent the fandom itself be it on purpose or not. (that’s why you have to be careful with the things you say, both in a fandom, and in your everyday life) Furry, furs, furry fans are some of the names given to people within this so colorful fandom, all of said names having the word “furry” as its root of origin. Now, I know some of you might have a slight Idea of what furry is, or what being a furry is, either way I’ll go ahead and explain some aspects people often tend to misinterpret. Quick Myths and Facts^^ Myth: Furs actually believe, think, consider they are animals. Fact: Furs only identify with animals, albeit deeply. Myth: All Furs wear costumes, fursuits Fact: Not entirely true. Only an estimated ten to fifteen percent don full-body costumes, some of which range in prices from fifty dollars, to a couple grands. In fact, most furs wear animal accents – including dog collars, fluffy tails and perky ears(I love those) -- but die-hards (who are able to pay such extravagant expenses) wear the full suit. Myth: Furs are like many timid animals, scaring easily and quivering in the presence of humans. Fact: Actually, this myth is partly true. Not only because of what many people consider the furry fandom to be (which they’re entirely wrong but we all have a right to opinion) but also because of how the human Psyche work. Humans unfortunately are hard-wired to focus on what we perceive to be facts that support what we believe and to ignore any other facts that don’t support what we believe. Myth: Furs are a tiny, microscopic segment of the population. Fact: They live among you, beware. Now onto what probably you were the most curious about, the *squee!*! Now now, settle down... *squee!*, is merely the dark branch on the “Furry tree” yes, it is what the furry fandom is most frowned upon. However, It’s that simple, *squee!*, is NOT furry in general, but the erotic aspect of this subculture, just like any other subculture has found embedded deep within it. (yes, even us bronies have that sort of thing) However, originally, *squee!* was a positive exclamation in the language “Foxish” designed by Foxen, better known as Littlefox in 1990 on FurryMUCK. Littlefox was known for his use of annoying yet extremely cute sounds that became the Foxish language. and just as the name implies FOXES FOXES EVERYWHERE MAKING CUTE LITTLE SOUNDS. These are some of the Sounds in the Foxish language *squee!* Originally: Happiest, very positive, yes, an exuberant greeting; Now, unfortunately it means sex for most people within the fandom and sadly the only thing people outside of the fandom see in it. yip Happier, more positive yerf Happy, positive, a greeting yaff A neutral (slightly positive) sound yarf A neutral (slightly negative) sound growf No, unhappy, negative growlf Very negative, unhappiest murph (slang) Contentment Fursuits Fursuits, are costumes used by furs, they can be home made, or custom made by a company specialized in costume creation. Their prices can range from less than a hundred dollars to even thousands. If so, how does it affect you being a Brony as well? do you know any furries? If you didn’t know about furries, how do you feel about the furry fandom? What are your thoughts on it? “REMINDER” I know some of the people who will read this dislike furries, but I’d really like to ask of you for some respect and consideration, not only for my persona, but for yourself as well and for the rest of the readers. Not everybody shares the same beliefs. Thank you^^
I think the furry fandom was the first fandom I've ever been a part of, though it took me a few years to actually realize it. I denied it for like, 4 years because it was a shameful thing to me at the time, but recently I've come to terms with it and wholeheartedly embraced it. This is probably what got me into the brony fandom in the first place, and now I even find myself drawing furry art. God I've come a long way. Anyhoo, bunnies unite y'all.
Actually not many people know this but BRONIES are also considered Furries too because an Anthromorphic character is any character thats an animal and they act like humans and in MLP the ponies act like humans (they eat, work etc) so in other words a Brony is a seperate branch of Furry.
I am closet furry. it affects me the same way that being a brony affects me, although I'm much less a brony now. I don't know any. I always thought the fandom is misunderstood, much like the brony ones, but furries have had a hard time for a lot longer.
I've mentioned this a few times in the chat, I know that much. lol Yes. You are all a sub-division. Take it from this long-time furry... it's not bad.
Well, here's another three cute pics I thought I should add here^^ Spoiler: Link to Artist for the first two pics http://oomizuao.deviantart.com/
I'm a furry, though I'm not all that active in the fandom... I should get more involved with it, really.
No. Just... No. We're fans of a show. Furries are... different. That's like calling someone who likes Sonic the Hedgehog a furry. Which is incorrect. Unless they are a furry.
Furry art and music is pretty awesome and the fandom itself is pretty neat and interesting, though I don't really see myself getting involved. - - Auto Merge - - Well in my eyes this depends. Some can just like the show...and that's it. Still a brony but without the furry-influence tied to it. But aside from that I agree with you.
So what about media like Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong, Mickey Mouse, Star Fox, Thundercats, or anything like that?
-Shrugs- To me it doesn't really matter. I can see it from both sides. Those who were furries first want to have their fandom be dominant and have bronies classified as a sub-genre. Those who were bronies first want their fandom to be special and considered its own. I just say I'm a part of both and ignore the details.
And what of those who have never identified themselves as a furry? Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
But you forget! This is the internet! Women are all men. Children are cops. Furries are... Stereotyped. Y'know, that stereotype. Same with bronies.
