I'm not sure but with steampunk that's already kind of present in canon equestria. I'm thinking of a full blown steampunk equestria (top hats, monocles and most importantly MOUSTACHES)
Steampunk could work. But i always think energy or magic, not steam or fuel. But all in all, i would like to have one thing: a reputation system. Basically, you do something big, you get more known. Let's say that after the battle with Bain, the others got celebrated as heroes. More ponies then start talking about them and with them. But Karl goes off and starts doing worse things, then the regular ponies start getting worried and seeks help from the heroes, therefore starting off another RP. The bloody hell did i just think up? Anywho, i'll specify later.
The way I imagine Steampower working is as a result of two magical elements - one of heat and one of water, being combined in a boiler to give steam. This would then make boilers small enough to be carried, making lots of devices feasible but heavy. I imagined putting together a sort of Faction thing. You create and then submit a 'Faction' within the OOC forums. A Faction would require things like it's own name, base of operations, signature equipment and a leader character. There's likely to be more needed to that. From there, you have other characters sign-up to join your faction. From there, you agree upon RPs for your faction to take part in, based on any goals that your leader character sets. You can choose to set up an RP of your own and start there, or enter into an RP already in progress, made by someone else. I still have to finalise details but that gives a vague jist, I think. This isn't final but it does allow for a 'Elements of The Ancients' Faction to be made with their respective elements given as a special thing for joining them. This way, as long as it's reasonable that characters would be able to hear about such things though certain methods, opinions on the actions of certain characters can be changed and then lead to particular actions based on that. Either acts of aggression or peace. Does this make any sense? It's still rather loose in my head, currently.
I've just created my own sort of Equestria which has a medieval tech level it is similar to normal equestria with a few differences. 1. The Peace Corps: being as my equestria is based during/after the NLR vs solar empire, the peace corps were set up by ponies from both sides with support from the White scale clan, the griffins and the ponies from haven. They later restored peace to Equestria and now act as a sort of police across Equestria. Making sure the war doesnt happen again. 2. The White scale clan: A dragon clan led by Lord FireLance they are a culturally rich and Social clan Who strive for peace. Unlike the other barbaric dragon clans such as the Blood Talons and Black Skulls. 3. The griffin kingdom: a kingdom filled with democracy and led by president gold beak. The kingdom has a feudal Japan style tech level with modern British style politics. 4. Haven: a country led by king Millennium they are near the end of a renaissance, with a tech level of late 1600's. The country is ruled by the king and his family with two orders, The golden order who keep the streets safe for havens citizens and the Scarlet Knights, once enemies of the order but now work under the king protecting haven against the bigger threats. The two orders each have their own versions of the elements the golden order has the elements of nature (fire, water, wind, earth and lightning) and the scarlet knights have the elements of Time (life, light, dark, hope and justice). I am thinking of doing a avengers style thing with role play's based around the history of the four kingdoms. I already started a Knights of Haven one (places still open) and I have started a interest check for the peace corps.
And how about this for a faction sheet. Faction name: Leader/leaders: Famous members: Headquarters: Special equipment: Origin/History:
Wait, what about Rp's that take place in Equestria, but just in different times, like Legends of New Equestria?
There should be special areas for adventure RPs such as Everfree and Tartarus, and areas where ponies can live their day to day lives such as Ponyville or Manehattan. Also none of that "Stay true to the MLP:FiM canon" junk that Fillydelphia.com and Canterlot.com do (No offense to either sites, okay offense to FillyDelphia because they banned me, but Canterlot is still cool especially thanks to that free RP section.) When I do a roleplay, I want to be a character on a wild adventure, battling monsters, and blowing up castles. Not some pony who is just another face in Equestria, plus what these two sites don't realize, is that Equestria is not a pacifist land, it is full of monsters and adventure. In fact, we see Rarity kick a manticore in the second episode. Fillydelphia even brought Nightmare moon back as a normal character, and THAT is staying true to canon? I'm not saying show the ponies getting in bar fights and smoking cigars, but at least allow the ponies to carry magical items and weapons, and go on adventures in the Everfree forest/Tartarus to claim treasures and stuff.
I'm gonna dedicate my day to helping with the Everypony multiverse. Keep in mind these are all just suggestion. First up, MOD rights. First and foremost, Mane 6 should be played by mods and mods alone. To get the oppurtunity to play as a background pony, you must earn itt. Secondly, No OC's may get into relationships with Mane 6, it would just make the whole continuity confusing and we would have everypony trying to romance the Mane 6. (However, in show characters should be allowed to get into relationships with eachother, I would suggest running this through prototype before finalizing it, because you never know what will happen to the characters we all love, but I suggest it because Derpy Hooves and Snowflake) 3rd, Only mods can activate the big events like Iron Pony, or Changeling Swarms on Canterlot. It would be unbearable otherwise, because we'd have a changeling swarm every 2 seconds. And they have to talk it over with the other mods and plan a date on which the event will be held. Now let's talk about the possibilities of character interaction. 1st, yes violence is allowed, but for gosh sake, at least give the characters a reason to fight with one another, and don't go into specific detail, fights between characters can lead to drama, suspense, and so much more if you don't use violence for the sake of violence. 2nd, No you may not show intercourse between the characters, that just breaks site rules in general. 3rd, this is MLP, not a soap opera, don't have characters freak out over SMALL details. This shouldn't be a rule, but it should be STRONGLY reccomended. 4th, NO SPARKLY VAMPIRE PONY ROMANCES, any other pony romance is fine, but when the vampires start sparkling is when you've crossed the line, crossed back, and then crossed it again. Now for character applications 1st. NO OP weapons, powers, etc. Magic swords, or ancient artifacts with special powers, ARE allowed in a magical world, but your "Flaming sword of super duper OMNIPOTENCE that can slay Discord, Celestia, Luna, and God all at once", yeah, that's gotta go. 2. Nothing that allows you to know OOC information. Subtle fourth wall breaking jokes are welcome, Heck I love Deadpool. But when you see someones OOC post and then have it so that your character reads their characters mind. Yeah, not gonna happen. 3. For Sparda's sake, no alicorns except for canonical ones. Do I really need to go into detail. 4. Other species characters should be allowed, provided they are on a list of acceptable species (Yes, if it goes according to plan, human will be on that list, but you will need experience as a roleplayer to play as one)( Allow me to explain how this experience works, the more people who like how you roleplay, the more experience you get from them liking your posts. Mods get instant access to all species on the list but they still can't play as non canonical alicorns.) So far the species list includes: Pony (This will be basic starter, you can choose from Pegasus, unicorn, or Earth pony) Zebra Changeling Griffin Human Dragon (Note: the dragons can only get to teen level, such as Garble)
*Stabs the humans and replaces them with Diamond Dogs!* How many points do I receive?! Ahem... seems this thread's age just keeps growing.
Still wandering on the factions thing seeing as im the only one who submitted a draft sheet for the faction approval.
I thought the point of a multiverse was so you could have multiple versions of the universes and say that this RP is based off of the universe this fanfiction or this other RP is in? Like alternate timelines and so forth. I mean I like that idea so anyone who wants to play a character can play that character. That's pretty much how we handle it on the Daria and Homestuck groups I'm in. Having only mods playing the mane six would be both inconvenient and kinda unfair in that situation. It's pretty widely accepted that every Daria fanfiction is part of the multiverse whether good nor bad and that way we han have awesome interdimensional traveling villains and heroes and with homestuck all alts were even made canon by hussy as a cruel joke but yeah we usually have dream bubble RPs where we can have multiples of the same characters even. Just some thoughts.
It isn't the concept of the multiverse that's hard It's getting characters to fit in each others RP DC comics is having the same problem with the Justice League movie
Can I just say how much I hate this idea? The rules of an RP should be up to its creator, not the mods. If I want to use a heroic version of Nightmare Moon in an RP designed around overpowered characters, I fail to see how that effects anyone. Changing the basic rules of the RP forum is just... ridiculous.
Hi, new here ... anyway, I like this idea. Maybe, let's say, you get tired of doing an RP that takes place in Ponyville and you want to go into one about Manehattan. If you're using an original character, you'd have to go through the trouble of finding a way to introduce your character. Instead, going from this POV, you could simply take a train ride going to Manehattan in the Ponyville RP and get off a train from Ponyville in the Manehattan RP. That is of course with prior permission from the GM to join the RP. The notion of a whole bunch of RP's taking place and being united sounds very intriguing. The multiverse thing sort of covers some of the problematics. Manehattan gets blown up in one RP but it's still there in another. Easily explained with the multiverse theory. Even if it was just a couple of RP's to start things off, like a Ponyville, Manehattan, and Canterlot RPs. It could branch off from there with user added locations. Say I thought up a new area where all the residents are alicorns, we'll call it Alicornicopia. Anyone would be able to start an RP using Alicornicopia as a location, set in a different universe. There's no telling exactly how large the planet really is. With multiverse theory, the number of possible locations increases exponentially. I'm all for this idea. I think it'd open up new windows for roleplayers old and new.
I know this thread is old, but I promised I would help bring a shared universe to light. If there's one thing I hate about FiM shared RP universes, it's that it always feels like the mods just take a look at the title of the show and say "Okay, it's about friendship and peace. Enforce that in the RPverse." Then it feels like they watch 3 episodes from season one and automatically assume Equestria is a perfect utopia free of war even though the Season 2 finale PROVES that it isn't. When I look at these RPverses, I see missed opportunity. They are so busy focusing on getting the shows theme down, that they forget that Equestria is a place of adventure and wonder. Almost every site that DOES recognize the opportunity for adventure, adds too many restrictions for the adventure to be fun.
