I just had a great idea that I like so much I just have to share it. Long story short, my idea is a way that the animators could subtly and tastefully throw a nod to one particular aspect of brony culture. The particularly infamous item I am referring to is . . . pause for dramtic effect . . . CUPCAKES! The scene is pretty simple. It starts with Rainbow Dash tossing and turning. She is obviously having a nightmare. She wakes up screaming. A nearby pony, I'm thinking Twilight, settles her down and asks what is wrong. Rainbow tries to explain the dream, "There was Pinkie Pie and . . . and . . ." Suddenly Pinkie pops in holding a tray of cupcakes and yells out "CUPCAKES!" Rainbow Dash screams once again and falls out of bed or wherever she is sleeping. And that is the end of that joke. The reason I like this idea so much is because of how subtle it is. Any brony remotely familiar with cupcakes will get the reference and be rolling. Non-bronies would just assume Rainbow's reaction is just from Pinkie pie startling her. Only we bronies would no the true depth of that joke. So the likely hood of another Derpy-like debacle would be very low. I know I was rolling when the idea came to me. What do you all think? All I know is if dhx ever really does drop a subtle nod to the brony community like this, I will without a doubt be rolling on the floor laughing and cheering.
Hmm . . . I thought it was funny, but then again I only recently became a brony so I am still catching up.
I haven't seen cupcakes but i haven't been living under a rock either so i have avoided it, i wouldnt want them to beacause outher bronies or people will wonder whats that a referance is and try and find and feel creeped out and probabaly disturbed.
Having read Cupcakes. There is a reason it is hated so much. It isn't as simple as "Pinkie dismembers and kills Rainbow Dash" with gory detail. It literally is the brainchild of Jigsaw. The idea of dismemberment is creepy, but the idea is Pinkie does her best to make it last long and makes sure Rainbow Dash is conscious for every last second of it. Now litter it with poor grammar in it. It's funny, people used to get offended at things like the game, "Manhunt", having played Manhunt, it does not hold a candle to this story
Yeah, after the movie Hostel came out, I'm pretty surprised anyone is disturbed by anything anymore. Anyway, even though a lot of people don't like Cupcakes for one reason or another, I thought your idea was brilliant. I don't see it happening...ever...but it was subtle and clever. I salute your brain, Mellow Note.
Thank you. I really appreciate it. I always have been a fan of those subtle jokes and references. I mean the initial version of Derpy in the last roundup was great tribute to the fans. The problem was that Derpy herself is kind of an in-joke that only people inside the fandom will get. People outside the fandom, as we saw, seem to have a tendency to assume the worst. That's kind of how my idea came from. I was wondering if there could be a way to make a reference to the fandom, one of the more controversial parts of it as I have come to learn, and do it in such a way that the fans will see the joke, and get it, but people outside the fandom would just see a funny reaction and be none-the-wiser. I do believe that a reference like this could very well be a way to reference the fandom without having it turn into a big blank-storm (<--- my method of censoring my language) like what happened with Derpy.
