I guess I should've been a bit more specific in my first post since there's some confusion now. In retrospect, watching a show with anthropomorphic animals (MLP) doesn't make you a furry. The label itself is associated with general fanworks, and it's very nonspecific. Watching LPS or MLP doesn't make you a furry by default, nor does liking the fanworks of either. The label is more aimed at fans of anthropomorphic animal artwork in general. People just like to throw bronies into the mix because they can be swept up into the furry fandom by definition, but the idea isn't a two-way street. The Sonic fandom is heavily associated with the furry fandom because many of its fans are furries, and it tends to be seen as a gateway into discovering if you're into the furry fandom or not. Again, it's not a two-way street. You have to decide for yourself whether you're a furry/into furry artwork or not.
yea many if us furs are mlp and sonic fans and no it doesnt nake you a furry to like either. and yes you can be a furry if you want but its up to you what you are. however those of us who are furry will welcome you if you join us
I don't consider myself a furry, but why do people seem so insulted when they are called one? If this question has been answered already, well then answer it again because I'm not reading 12 pages of this topic.
Because it's viewed as weird, furries have an awful rep and people don't wanna be a part of it. It's like being called a nerd in middle school when everyone wants to be "gangsta" and "cool"
Yeah, but it's a different weird I guess. Like being into BDSM and the like. It's weird to those that don't understand it. Everything is weird to someone, society is what determines what we shun for it though.
If the minority of people hated ponies then they'd be the ones trying to hide it from the fans. I guess, that's a bad example. People should just be quiet and let others just do things.

They might be, that does seem to be the most negative part about it to an outsider looking in. That's what they see first, then they assume bestiality or whatever. AND BAM, bad rep yo.
Well, it's kinda a part of life. Nothing can be changed about that. No matter what fandom or w/e you're in, there's porn. Period. I mean, as long as nobody's trying to shove it in your face, it's fine.
