I don't mean to bring up another grimdark topic, there have been so many lately, but I want to share something in my life that I am quite scared about.

I have an insane friend, like a real life Pinkameana from cupcakes. If I knew he was going to turn out a crazy as he has, I would have known not to let myself become friends with him, I am a very easy person to befriend, in fact too easy and it has led me to make friends with people that I have ended up finding thier company so annoying that I have had to find away to politely tell them to go away. I normally do this by just ignoring any attempts they make to contact me until they give up.

So far this has only happened with people who I just don't enjoy hanging out with.

But this time I think the guy I befriended is dangerous. Why? because first he began preaching to me about some completely insane beliefs he had. But these were religious messages and ideals he came up with completely in his own head and he told me he believes he is destined to be the pope. He reads into everything he sees or hears such as the colours the Southpark characters wear or the lyrics in a Guns & Roses song as having some sort of religious message, oh and even the green - blue - red triangle in Pokemon and Eternal Darkness. Then he made an insane prediction about me out of nowhere, that I would meet the literal Hilda female avatar character from pokemon. In 14 days or 14 years.

Shortly after he told me this he loaded up a song on youtube called 14 years, as if this was his proof. I don't mind religious people but this guy is fanatical and the way he thinks has no rationality what so ever.

At my class he is extremely inconsiderate and selfish towards other students and lecturers, just the classic symptom I would expect from someone who thinks they are god's chosen one. Noone ever wanted to work with him.

    I gets worse.

He disappeared from school for a week. Then when he got back he told me he was sent to Greylands, for a psychotic episode. He told me he had an argument with his mom and that he got taken away. He made it out as not a big deal. But from what I knew of him I could imagine his mum could have have been genuinely fearful of her life. I would be scared of making him angry too. Which is why I try to be nice and not let that happen.

He failed the course we were in and didn't come with me to the next course. I hoped I would never see him again, but twice he has shown up unannounced at my house and has told me that he is on some sort of probationary release from the mental institute and that he takes medication to keep himself, well normal, apparently. He told me he want to continue to be my friend and to hang out. I couldn't say no, because I don't know what he is capable of and I imagine a crazy person losing their only friend, I think could cause a psychotic episode.

Now I constantly dread the next time I will see him and how many times I can make up excuses to tell him to go away. I did tell him quite strongly to never show up unannounced again. He agreed and has already shown up once more after that.

Not really asking for advice just wanted to get that off my chest.

Ok, Setzer, I know you're not asking for advice, but you're going to get lots of it anyways, I predict - I know you want to be nice to this guy, but there is a point in which you have to put your foot down. This guy sounds like all kinds of dangerous to me. Get a hold of the authorities or your parents or some other higher-up, like a teacher, and let them know what this guy has been up to.

Wow, this sounds like an interesting topic.

Mm, I know what it's like, when someone offers to remain your friend, but you don't want too. You feel too considerate to not accept this request. Not that that's a bad thing, but still.

Hm... nope, don't know how to handle this.

The best thing you can do is at least alert the authorities. That is what they're there to do. Really, whether or not he's dangerous is irrelevant, it's the possibility that he is that is the main concern. It's best to at least know you're safe, than for something to happen and wish you'd have done something about it.

I'm also a bit worried what this guy will think about ponies too. If religious parents can be angry at their grown sons about it, I wonder what his reaction would be?

Best not let him find out about ponies anytime soon. If you truly are scared, you should alert the authorities, just as Lup said. This guy doesn't seem like a cool customer, so to speak.

I've been in a similar situation. Things ended up working themselves out but as mentioned three times before this, tell someone be it a higher up or the authorities. Aside from that, should you try to break things off with him, be subtle. I know people like this can be unpredictable. Whatever you do, be careful.

as Lupr and Zephyr said, I would contact authorities and keep reserved about friendship and try to be reserved.

If you fear for your life, contact the proper authorities. I highly agree with Yeti and the others.
Just make sure you don't eat or drink anything he gives you.

I must say I, too, am in agreement with everyone else here. I'd alert some authoritative figure of your concern about this guy. He sounds like he's not only a potential danger to you, but to others as well if he has that kind of mental state. If I understand correctly, are you the only one he's told this? If so, I can understand if you have a concern about what he might do if he learns that you went to the authorities. So, if you do choose to follow our advice, I cannot stress enough the importance of letting them know that you think you may be in danger. I hope they'd take it seriously if you told them that.

If you don't want to go straight to an authoritative figure, then, as Dwynter suggested, perhaps ask your parents, a teacher or a counselor for advice. My main concern is if you do go to an authoritative figure is whether or not they'll take it seriously (they should, but you never know sometimes) and how this guy will react if he found out you told them. That's my primary concern; your well-being.

If it were me, I'd probably ask my parents for advice first to see what they suggest. I usually do that when it's an ultra-serious situation. A lot of times, they know best.

If you want to avoid the police/mental institutions or directly contacting any of them, you could talk to his parents and/or a school counselor.

I hope he gets the help he needs and doesn't end up hurting anyone. :(

I know how you feel, man... take my advice and run!!
People like him aren't really religious in my opinion... they use it as an excuse and can be dangerously selfrighteous and delusional...
I wouldn't alert the authorites unless he is unable to keep stable in front of others though...
Then again, you're an adult, so you shouldn't have any problems with authorities. But neither should he is all that I'm saying.
But I'm just saying, you don't want to have anything to do with such people!
If they get close enough, they can cause a huge amount of problems... and they get worse, the longer you know them!
I'm not sure how your friend is like, but I'm just saying from my experiences with certain people...

I had a dream about this, kinda.

I was lying in my bed and then I heard a knock at the door. I ignored it like I normally do hoping for one of my housemates to answer it and for it to be for them. I waited, starting to get anxious that it could be the crazy guy who thought he was my friend. Noone answered the door and he seemed to give up. Just as I relaxed he knocked on my window. "Hello you there Setzer", he asked. It sounded like him I think I will just stay completely still and silent and hope he figures I'm not home.

Then my window which I always leave unlocked opens and a head pokes out from behind the curtain. It was not the crazy guy but instead, a good friend I hadn't seen in ages that I loved hanging out with. Him being here though was unlikely as he lived in a town 600 km away.

I invited him in and apologized for ignoring him, explaining that I was literally terrified of this crazy friend of mine. Then the dream ended as far as I can tell.

This dream happened after running scenarios in my head as to just what excuses I would use to avoid the crazy guy next time he comes around.

Maybe you should start locking your windows.

Can't you just not answer the door, if he ever comes around your place.

As someone who is probably a bit crazy himself, I'd have to say that I think you may be over-reacting a bit. From what you've said, it doesn't seem that you have any evidence that he could be dangerous. All sorts of people with psychological disorders can be thrown into mental hospitals, not all of them dangerous. Also, if he WAS dangerous to those around him, why would they just release him so quickly? I'm sure that society is better than that.

Also, you seemed to make a big deal about his religious beliefs, as if it was a sign of becoming a murderous sociopath. I'm pretty sure that's just very, very strong eclectic paganism. Which isn't a mental disease, you know.

Thinking of how it must be from his perspective, maybe he visits you unannounced for a reason. Does he have anyone else who are good friends? Maybe he relies on you. He could be needing you, your support, your friendship. And not to try and guilt trip, but you're kinda trying to break away from him.

I personally think you should be careful, but you should also be open-minded about it. Hasty conclusions are generally bad.
