One question I do have about this is: Are diamond dogs based on actual mythology? I know most villains have been based on actual mythology beasts, and often quite obscure ones (not sure how many young kids even ever heard of a manticore of a cockatrice) - but the only other place I've heard of diamond dogs is from the game Earthbound (also had a lot of mythology based enemies) in which a boss went through different stages of carbon, ending up as a "Diamond Dog."
That's an interesting concept, I googled it and the first result is an Album by David Bowie which - coincidentally just happens to inspired by George Orwell's 1984 - I believe TWIF/The World IS Flat has read that, maybe he could shed some insight :3 Anyway this is my favourite episode BY FAR "I'm not whining, I'm complaining - This is whining" - That line on = Rarity for the win <3 Think Spike has competition =D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Dogs_(disambiguation) Well it's not that it's impossible to find references to whatever it is, just can't seem to find anything about the source of the idea, unless it really just is convenient alliteration. Apparently there was also a Science fiction story written with the name, but that seems inconsequential to the idea of it being a myth or not http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Dogs,_Turquoise_Days
On second thoughts it sounds like a term or phrase 'That Diamond Dog' (similar to Gold Digger perhaps?). I doubt it's coincidence, you don't come up with a creature like that randomly, they don't have the time to think out a whole new race for a single episode Nothing checks out on UrbanDictionary though :/ http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Diamond Dog Spoiler: funny Type:'defineiamond Dog' into google, something is messed up there
Well, Diamond dogs, my theory on how Lauren Faust (or whoever wrote this episode) came to the conclusion to name them like that: ~It's just the fact that that episode was about Jewelry, and there are little to no jewelry that start with a "D" (Basically, so that it has sense to go with Dogs). And seeing how "Diamonds" pretty much value the most, she (or whoever wrote this) had the idea to call them like that. OR this: ~The creatures themself from My little pony were inspired by the diamond dogs. Keep in mind that Lauren Faust, in her youth, watched a lot of kid shows, and so it is possible that she just played videogames as well (Earthbound - I don't think it was hard to miss this one/not play it in the SNES time). Or, if there are really some diamond dogs that are mithological, maybe she (or whoever wrote this episode) was inspired to use something like that creature in this episode.
Well, all the characters are mythical creatures. Dragons, Pegasi, Unicorns, Pegacorns, Chimeras, Hydra, etc. The only non mythical creatures are the regular ponies, but they talk. :derpe: I wouldn't be surprised if they had minotaurs soon. Maybe even a snake creature.
I wonder if there will be any more episodes in the future where Spike just starts falling in love with Rarity? Not including the episode where Twilight blurts out that he has a crush on her, of course. I'd like to see this happen a few more times.
And how! Wouldn't it be funny if in the last episode of this season they had it where Spike finally declares his love for Rarity, right to her face? That would be funny to see!
Nah, too much to work with when it's a secret. I don't think he'll confess his love to her any time soon. lol.
MLP:FiM isn't turning into a creepy show for old men is it T_P? I actually found that episode pretty creepy/disturbing/kinda sick. Does it worse or better from here on in? I hope this doesn't turn into a porn show or something 0.o 8{ X{ X_X
Ummmm what? How was it disturbing? Funny, the show gets an audience of people older then 10 and suddenly everyone thinks it's porn or something. No, the series is not in any way related to porn, remember that it does air on a cartoon station. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "better or worse" but it doesn't get any more disturbing, but honestly I don't get why you'd find it disturbing. The only thing that can be taken as disturbing about the show is some of the fan content, but honestly that's just how the internet is - the people how make said disturbing content are not in the majority, nor are they supported by the entirety of the fanbase.
I love this episode so much rarity is amazing in it. there are so many good lines and it is really is a wonderful episode
Kids and their dirty minds these days =( This episode was win, I to can't see how in anyway shape or form it's disturbing. Perhaps depressing. I'd love to be able to manipulate my voice like Rarity's VA
Well...I'll explain why it was creepy to me. Three dogs stalk a girl and then kidnap her and try to make her their slave. But she doesn't want to be their slave so she complains; they can't stand it and will do anything to make her stop. When they realize they submitted to someone they were trying to dominate, they rebel and try to make her their slave again. She complains more and one gets mad and slaps her butt and calls her a mule. However, it's not being slapped on the butt that bothers her; it's being called a mule. She starts crying and they try to console her but she is inconsolable. When her friends show up to save her, the dogs willingly give her back because they can't stand her "whining"; It turns out...she was manipulating them all along.
