    Yes. He was kidding.

Yep; that's a good point. Actually, all lesbians describe themselves as gay in technical terms (okay, all of them except for a few outliers) but for the purposes of everyday communication the term "lesbian" confuses fewer people.

I had a friend in high school who was gay. I figured as long as he didn't hit on me, we were cool. Whatever floats your boat.

I was raise not to judge a person, regardless of religion, sexuality, or looks but the Actions on if they are cruel and mean.

I got nothing against Gays or lesbians. If your Gay or a Lesbain? Great. I couldn't be anymore happy for you. This is no longer the Dark Ages. Times for people to wake up and Accept.

This is bit of tired sterotype.
Gay people don't just go flirting with every guy whether they want it or not.

I've never really understood that state of mind honestly. Y'know, the one where it's pretty much "It's okay as long as they don't hit on me."

There are really two things that stick out to me about it.
For one, it's kind of hard to tell who is and who isn't gay or bisexual, I mean, a lot of the posts in this thread were discussing how they knew people of those sexualities and never they were oriented in that way, so in a way, it's very easy to sympathize with somebody who takes the risk nonetheless.
Secondly, it's not like they're groping you or something. Granted, sexual harassment from anybody to anybody is flat out not okay, but if somebody is willing to go out of their way and hit on me, regardless of gender I'd be flattered as all hell. I think I'd ride that emotional high for a day or two.

To be fair, that's just about how the media portrays men in general though. Just more so in regards to homosexuality unfortunately.

Fair, but that's just the sorts of cultures we tend to live in. I once found an excellent documentary which outlined the ways in which sexism towards women hurts men and sexism toward men hurts women.

I didn't say that they did. I just meant as long as he didn't cross the line. I've also had a gay co-worker make awkward comments to me knowing I was straight so while I know that isn't the norm, it still happens. I'm not homophobic.

I don´t have any problem with that. I mean I´m a straight guy and I know there are a lot of problems with homosexual or lesbians around the world. or at least that´s what I know. I know there were some cases around the world in wich some sons or some daugthers commit suicide because their parents didn´t accept that their were gay/lesbian.
I guess I´m lucky to live in a place were such things like "don´t accept someone for reasons like the skin colour or about a gender preference" is seem like something pathetic.
I´m sorry if I have any mistake. I´m trying really hard to use the few english that I know.

To the people saying things like you don't have a problem with gays unless they cross a line - you are describing a line that should apply to anyone, there's no reason to single out gay people. For example, rape is rape, it has nothing to do with sexual orientation. Unwanted advances also are not sexual orientation specific.

And to everyone saying you dont have a problem with gay people but you "don't agree" or "don't think it's right"... you DO have a problem with gay people and you are just dancing around that fact. You can't just say things like that - that's not okay. Just imagine how stupid someone would sound if they said: "well i have black friends, but I don't think they should be black - and even tho I don't have a problem with my personal black friends I agree with my religion that says that they shouldn't have certain rights that us white people get"

They do have an equivalent for race. When people say "I'm not racist but"

As for the line. When people say that, I assumed they mean something like if a gay guy knows the other male is straight he shouldn''t hit on him.

I agree, and if i wasn't in a relationship (which kinda turns off my need to hit on anyone) I still wouldn't ever think to hit on someone I knew wasn't capable of being interested in me back. 1- why would I purposely make someone uncomfortable unless I wanted to be a d-bag, and 2- even if I was oblivious to that part what do i get out of it?, if they can't like me back then why am I wasting my time xD

Another thing that bothers me whenever this topic comes up is that this seems to be a man-specific issue. Women have to deal with unwanted "hitting on" all the time from straight guys regardless of if they are interested in men or not. I think it's just ironic when guys that regularly do this kind of stuff to others are the first people to get upset when someone does it to them. I'm not saying you, or even the others in this thread necessarily are these guys, I'm just pointing out a general social issue that is related to this discussion that people should be aware of.

I had actually added what you said to the end of my post but I deleted it. It is entirely true though. Those kinda guys just think they have the born right to everything. They are the type to shame a woman for wearing revealing cloths but then have shirtless Facebook pictures. They believe they can have sex with anyone at anytime and its cool. A woman does it and its the worst thing in the world.

A person I follow on tumblr had that issue. She has a girlfriend and repeatedly told this guy that was hitting on her. He just never seemed to understand.

    I hate my generation.

We have hundreds of gays kids taking their lives due to bullying, yet no one cares. Yet a girl who gave out naked pictures to a guy, who spread them around, which caused people to bully her goes out, then kills herself is called an "angel", is "deeply missed", and other things. Most of my generation is a bunch of freaking idiots who can't handle people being "different".

She was just one of the ones that got attention. I had a similar thing happen in my school. In the tech center where all the schools came together. So it got to all of them. No idea what happened to the girl though.

The problem with the bullying is that the parents always tell the victim to change what they do. It's not the victims fault they are bullied, its the bullys that do it. It's easy to do it the fits way though, wouldn't want to discipline your own child.

Indeed. The same is true of people that say they are "okay" with LGBT people as long as they are not "cramming it down their throats". This is tantamount to saying that LGBT people should remain in the closet. Furthermore, it is hypocritical in the extreme, for straight people "cram" their sexual orientation" down everyone's throats whenever they wear engagement or wedding rings; they do it when they hold hands with their sweethearts in public; and they do it when they talk about relationships in general.

I don't have a problem with LGBT people. Granted, I am a bisexual male, so one could accuse me of being somewhat biased. However, homophobia isn't predicated on any logical foundations, and I was opposed to homophobia before I knew I was bisexual (I didn't realize it until I started getting into my mid-20's).

I have never had a problem with it. A person is a person no matter what there sextual orientation may be.

I'm part of the rainbow spectrum, so I think it's gay-okay!
I mean, gays, lesbians, bisexuals and asexuals are exactly like heterosexuals. They just happen to find other people attractive.

That's a fair point, but a lot of bigots seem to take issue with LGBT people for merely social issues and then try to push a political agenda to back up those "Worried Mother Concerns." It can probably go either way.
