I always say, never apologize for liking what you like. If you can take the detentions involved, then I say that you and your friends should all wear your mlp shirts every single day until they realize how stupid they're being.
(update) Ponies :Banned ''Censorship'' yeah thats right, now they're censoring ponies at my school. For a final project, we were to make a presentation of what most inspires us. I, of corse did one on "My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic". But when I went up, they shut me down. The teachers told me they weren't going to let my embarrass myself. EMBARRASS! Who are they to tell me what I should be embarrassed about! It is my decision and right to say what I believe in. they might as well tell me to stop being black! One of the teachers decided to take 50% off my score for just mentioning "Pony". I'm serious! I wasn't up for 30 seconds. I tried to turn it in directly to them but they refuse to even look at it. Those three teachers (socialoligy, general studies, and resource (who believe bronies don't exist) ) are trying so hard to reject something they have no idea what's it about. Believe it or not (the resource teacher doesn't), there were a lot more bronies in my home city Detroit. The first rule in Detroit is that you better make some friends, and what better way than in the brony community. I believe mlp spread through Detroit the way it did was because it was as compact -- you were bound to meet another brony, and then they meet another, and then someone meet thoughs and become a brony, and so on. Here in the suburbs of Ohio, people are more spread out and have a less chance meeting a brony. they haven't developed a tolerance yet -- that's understandable. but going as far as taking my right of freedom of speech. thats uncalled-for!!
This seems more of a "blog" thing but that's just me. You say "they"; is it the whole school that is "banning" MLP or your teacher for the class you've made your project in?
Teachers: "Gee, we don't want students to be bullied. Let's not let them talk about the things they love so no one will pick on them. Let's not give them any freedom of speech or prevent the bullies from picking on them in the first place." There's no logic here and these are supposed to be teachers. That is sad. - - Auto Merge - - yes we do
The fact that they essentially threatened to flunk you for no reason just screams "lawsuit". If I were you, I would be taking notes on who said what and when and if you have any sympathetic classmates, they can be witnesses.
It sounds to me as if your teachers are acting like bullies! Who are they to deny you the right to hand in a presentation on why FiM inspires you? What's the big deal? the show sends out a message of acceptance, tolerance and friendship, just like schools are supposed to do. Its not like you are trying to get them to accept a presentation on why Ted Bundy is your inspiration or something.
Seriously, you should wear the shirts every day if you're willing to take the detentions. If they start keeping you after for any significant number of days, the administration will get interested. Have you tried approaching any principals of student counselors? This appears to be a case of teacher-on-student bullying, and should be reported as such.
The only problem is that 'they' usually end up winning. Unfortunately, the staff are the be-all, say-all, end-all in these situations. It's just like all of the other silly laws we have to follow. I don't think it should be a law to wear a seatbelt (although I always do). That should be a common sense decision. Same with a helmet on a motorcycle. Many rules are asinine but what you have to ask yourself is, "is it really worth causing a stir over?" Just my opinion.
That's just ridiculousness.... That is a clear violation of our freedom of speech and discrimination. I know exactly what I would do, but do it in a reasonable way.
I have to agree with this. Sadly enough, "freedom of speech" is used too frequently by the wrong people who think only they are allowed to say whatever they want. Freedom of speech counts for everyone. If you like ponies, than that's your opinion. Nobody should have a problem with it, and if they do, then why are they having a problem with it in the first place? It's not that if you like ponies, that suddenly everyone must like ponies. Sure, they can hate ponies, but they can't ban others from enjoying something they hate, it's irrational, dumb and you'll only look like a big bully. Some people... Just some people...
While I would normally say "go for it", I don't think that would be a good idea in this case. Whether it's right or not, if we try and retaliate, ndogmario would be blamed and punished for it even if he had nothing to do with said retaliation. On the other hand, if he's willing to accept that, then that's fine.
the best course of action whould be to kill, but that is not an option in this case. so therefore i see a few possibilities. option one: anon spam sociology teacher with ponies. option two: show him exactly what it means, mabye he bought into the whole clop thing and thought oh kids should not see that (this is possible but is probably not why.) option three: gather all the bronies in your school and tell them all to wear there shirts(if they have shirts of pony related content) and get there parents involved via the phone call home about being at the office. (could be risky because some parents may not listen to there sons or daughters because of the phone call. final option that i can think of: get your parents involved, you wouldn't believe how forceful they can be. These may work as long as you are in high school, if not then you could ignore my options.
Get a fairly large group of your friends and start a protest against them. You should take this to the principal. Perhaps by raising awareness of this, you can convert some people to bronyism.
I agree - you should protest this if you feel that you can, because this is a violation of the freedom of speech. Can I help? btw, I have to say that your sociology teacher makes me think of this guy --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd0yVA_QNZY
Go about it how they do stuff at my school - Go off on them, give 'em the bird, storm out. (not suggested)
