I was very happy to see as much.

I'd like to point out the legitimacy in that statement. I don't see many fights in bars or other areas that have anything to do with gays, but when you're associated with the "othered" group that is being set apart from everyone else, you know when you're not wanted. Insensitivity and uncomfortable environments are not uncommon, though I can see why that might not be apparent to people not being directly affected by that atmosphere.

Earlier today, there was an article on the Today show about gay marriage, and how it is okay to be LGBT, and the whole time my homophobic dad threw a fit, and said "That's not God's way, those people should be ashamed." The whole time I wanted to smack him because, while I am straight, I have nothing wrong with gay/lesbian people, that is their choice and people shouldn't judge others because they are different.

Well, I'm glad that you are better than that, sorry your dad is being like that though (my parents are also weird about certain social issues, so I know the frustration) - it certainly helps that some straight people get it and are brave enough to especially stand with us non-straight folks fighting for these basic freedoms.

    On a minor tangent,
It probably goes without saying but, just to clarify, it isn't a choice - or is at least as much of a choice as being left or right handed. I'm sure you didn't mean to imply anything and it was just accidental word choice, but just in case I thought i'd point it out.

Yeah, I'm gay, have an awesome boyfriend too. I'm actually bisexual, but prefer guys, so yeah. I'm also transsexual, so technically I'm straight.

The Daily Show had a funny segment on the recent pro-gay rights Supreme Court decisions tonight and yesterday evening.

I was watching that, ...its tough because normally a bunch of straight guys using gay sterotypes is a little uncomfortable, but because it's all satire I think I'm okay with it? ... it was still funny I guess at the end of the day, because I know they are all supportive of whats going on.

Yeah, some of my favorite shows (The Daily Show, The Colbert Report) use satire. A lot of what Jon Stewart's stand-in said last night, however, wasn't supportive of those negative stereotypes, but rather an attack on the use of those stereotypes by people in power for the promotion of their own self-interests.

Right, and I think that John Oliver did at one point break the act a little to emphasize that point - like i said, its tough, but I am very much behind the Daily Show for what they do to bring light to these things in a supportive and usually hilarious way.

Say, do bisexual count as gay/sort of gay? If so then I'd love to share that I belong to this thread as well. Also seen some cute guys from this forum in the short time I've been present.. I like it ^^

Bisexual is the "B" in LGBTQA, so yes, it does count as being a part of the spectrum.

Sure thing! If there's anything I can do to help clear up that confusion, don't hesitate to ask.

That acronym keeps getting longer when I'm not looking. Where did the Q and A come from?

Questioning and Asexual. It's actually longer than that. Intersex and Intergender are also part of it.

    Wait... Asexual?
How is a complete disinterest in sex related to being gay, bi, or transgendered?
