This very much so. I'm trying to just gather ideas, any will do! (I should add "make it more sexy" though :derpe:)

Are you talking about the interactive comic? Sunburn was in charge of that, but he semi left the site. If we had some people to go back into it, that'd be fun though!

for #1: Eight recently got some advertising going around, so that should draw some people in. I do agree we need more people, and there's one place I have in mind that I want to get connections with.

for #2: That's why I want greenlight to go and get lots of attention, that'll attract quite a bit of people if we have prerecorded shows. That's also why I'm willing to do less than normal djing things.

for #3: Making them feel welcome is a huge part too. I was just thinking about how the site's groups are super unnoticable, and no one really uses them. A revamp of those might help, because people will be able to find groups they like, and always have someone they can go to for help in a category of something they do.

That's my fault, I'm not in a position (as in my real life circumstances) to dedicate the time an effort needed, and I don't think a half-baked attempt would do anyone any good. This does bring up a good point though.

TL;DR at the end for any of you lazy folks.

Okay, here's my view on the situation.
I don't think the problems here at Everypony.com are caused by the staff or the users themselves, not for the most part at least, in the grand scheme of things. I believe the problem lies in the nature of Everypony.com as a website; a forum.

I am a member of 2 others forums, they are both very active and thriving communities, one more so than any other forum I've come across. There seems to be a key difference between those two forums and EP, and it's not the members or the staff. It is the foundation the forum is built around, in the case of EP this is MLP:FIM.

Now, there is nothing "wrong" with that but it seems to be a disadvantage to what we can offer to members here.
The other forums are based on,

Little Big Planet (A PS3 game for creating your own games)
    Offered here is,
    -Tutorials for creating
-A place to ask for help & advice for creating
-Space to advertise what you made
-Places to find great creations by others

Mighty Car Mods (A modified car show on Youtube)
    Offered here is,
    -Tutorials for modifying your car
-A place to ask for help & advice for modifying
-Space to show what you have done
-Places to find great modifications by others

By the nature of their foundations, which both cases are very creativity focused, they provide something for the members there that encourages them to take part in the community and continue doing so. This is along side the general forum staples; Art & Creativity, News & Media, General discussion, a place to make friends.

Everypony.com doesn't have those key points to bring people in, it is destined to survive of off the basic forum staples instead. Like I said earlier, there's nothing "wrong" with that, but it seems to be the precursor to some common themes.
I've seen it a numerous of times; Members register, become active in the community arts and discussion, make friendships, activity slows, and the leave because they 'Don't feel they belong', 'The fun has gone' or they 'Feel they have no use here'.

I get the feeling this is because, they make great friends here (enough to add them on Skype etc), they find great artists here (music, drawing, writing etc) but over time their needs for these become met and what is to keep them here when this starts to happen?

I think if we want to rejuvenate this place we need to give our members more than just a place to hang out with friends having some fun and games. If would could provide some form of service to our members they would be more inclined to be active community members.

    TL;DR
EP is a great place to make friends and have fun but I don't think that is enough to keep the forum alive and pumping. We need to provide more substantial services to our members that will make them want to keep coming back. We need to make those basic forum staples (Art & Creativity, News & Media, General discussion, a place to make friends) more than what they are currently.

Flutteryshy, I have some suggestions I'd like to run by you (and staff) personally, but I do have things to do today so I'll send a PM later when I have time.

These are all nice ideas, i suppose, but if this thread really was inspired by my resignation, you're seriously missing the point. You don't need to make changes to the site. Not yet at least. For starters, you need to make changes to the staff, and it's general attitude towards the site.

First, Eight should think about what he wants to do. I strongly advise a change in administration before anything else.

I guarantee you that all of these changes and ideas will be completely and utterly dropped within 2 weeks if it takes effort under the current administratorship.

When it comes down to it, maybe 3 people will end up working on anything at a time and the rest will have nothing to do with it at all.

Granted, some of these ideas are really nice. I'd like to see some of these implemented.

...But they won't be as staff is right now. Focus on staff first, work on forum later.

I never thought of it like that before, that does make a big difference for us, and a disadvantage. I'll think about that over night, and get back to everyone if I have any ideas.

    @Everyone saying it's the staff

I don't mean to be rude but I think it's a bit short sighted to jump right into accusing the staff as the problem whenever one of these threads pops up. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting the staff have nothing to do with it what so ever, I simply think there are more fundamental issues here.

Do we just keep switching the staff around until we strike it lucky?

We don't need to keep switching staff around randomly. When it comes to choosing a new admin, the entire staff should have a sit down and discuss things. Zephyr basically just pulled an "eenie-meanie-miney-mo" and went with Eight.

Being part of the staff, and more importantly, being in the staff room, gives you a very clear perspective of things. It's easier for former staff members to realize what needs to be done because they know the procedures. And to be honest, i'm not even criticizing "most of the staff". Just Eight.

Yeah, the guy who is criticizing most of the staff is me, because I feel that they aren't willing to accept criticism well.

Notice how Fluttery and all other staff are ignoring anything that me or Rarit have said regarding them. This is precisely what I mean.

Eight is the basis of the problem, but the other staff have a responsibility to be active and work on improving themselves as well. That is my main concern.

The staff need to prioritize fixing their internal workings before taking up the mantle on this, Doggy. That is all I am saying. These suggestions are good. The concept is good.

It just will not be executed well as things are now.

On the topic of advertising, I'll be getting a media badge under Everypony Radio for Everfree Northwest. I likely won't be giving Everfree Radio a run for their money at all, but I can at least get our site's existence out there. That and I keep bringing us up in the chat I'm in with a lot of the musicians. There has been some similar issues with staff things on a site that I will not name for privacy reasons, and some of the musicians are getting dissatisfied with remaining there. I'm hoping I can talk them into coming to Everypony, and maybe even doing some shows on our radio.

There are things I could say and suggest but I don't know the exact situation, so I shall remain dormant until my services are needed.

    Ditto.

Also, I can't put a less than 10 character post on something that has a quote. Is that a bug? I'd imagine the quote is at least meant to contribute to the 10 characters.

Quote tags don't count as your post text.

That should probably be adjusted, unless it can't be because VB is stupid.

What you type is your content. Removal of the 10char limit would be the only [easy] way.

Quick Edit: This can be specifically modified.

Makes sense. 10char limit is to prevent spam. Don't think it's wise to get rid of it.

Apologies, there actually is a setting for including quote text in charlimit. I'll pass it on whenever I next see tyro or eight.

    So much of this <3

Though I will point out that throwing names around doesn't accomplish anything, it just makes that person feel bad - which isn't friendly - and so essentially goes against everything this forum and community stands (or stood?) for.
