Ahhhhh! Kappa! That's all I had to say, for I'm not good in such disputes as this. It's America, so things aren't as tight on death as the UK, although the UK is more lenient on it's sentences. As for his death I still say R.I.P. regardless if Zimmerman did good or bad.
Zimmerman did not kill a "kid." He killed a seventeen year old grown man that was attempted to beat him to death against the concrete sidewalk. This is not a racial issue. In fact, the only person to use a racial slur was Martin himself, who, according to the girl he was on the phone with, called Zimmerman a "cracker." It is not Zimmerman's fault that Martin is dead. It is Martin's fault that Martin is dead. Lastly, don't accuse me of getting my information from Fox News. I don't care if you disagree with me, but don't insult me.
I certainly will disagree with you in this case then. The 'evidence' in both sides was nothing more than heresy. Nobody really knows what happened except for two people; one is dead, and the other will never have a normal life again. And also, if my head was bashed into the concrete multiple times, I think I'd have more than a few cuts on my face. I still think the 'bashing into the concrete' bit was a farce.
I agree that bashing into the concrete is probably false. It doesn't take much to get a concussion and Zimmerman apparently didn't have one. In fact, he barely had any medical treatment for a man supposedly beaten. I'm not saying he didn't feel his life was in danger, but I think at worst he got punched in the face and fell down. Also, from my readings I haven't found anything proving that Martin committed any burglary. He was suspended from school for tardiness, truancy, and graffitti, and while he did possess women's jewelery and a screwdriver, no evidence surfaced that it was stolen.
I don't even know where to start with this thread... I just.... forget for a moment that racism isn't a thing that undermines everyones safety, that doesn't affect everything, everywhere, at all times, and that the court was hand selected of white women sympathetic to zimmerman's point of view, that trayvon was unarmed, that the police told zimmerman EXPLICITLY not to follow trayvon, that zimmerman had no right to be following a kid that was living in that neighborhood at his own family's house. Totally ignore that when a black person defends themselves with NONLETHAL force, they go to jail for DECADES. Just pretend that none of these things are true and focus on the main point here: A man murdered a kid (yes a person under 18 years old is a kid by all legal and mature definitions) and not only was let completely off the hook for what was at best obviously second degree murder, if not murder in the first degree (chasing a kid with a gun) ... was not even charged with manslaughter!!!?!? WTF
Thank you, all of you, for proving what I've known all along. The truth doesn't matter. People will always believe what they want to believe. I'm done with this thread.
WHOA, dude... calm down... This is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard, and I've heard some Efed up stuff. Just your wording makes me not want to take you seriously. Dude, from what I can tell you might as well be a Psychopath, no worse than the guy in jail who murdered his own family and raped their corpses afterwards. Just by reading what you wrote, it makes me think you can actually go ahead and hurt someone, I mean... if you are sick enough to think or say something like that... who knows, you might actually be a threat to your community, just like you claim the victim in this case to be. Now back to this case. Zimmerman, was told by 911 that officers were on their way and not to follow Martin. However, Mr Zimmerman decided it would be nice to play vigilante and followed Martin anyway. Just as it was to be expected, thing escalated to a more physical level. Now, there is no evidence as to whom was the victim or the aggressor. But let's think, you are chasing someone, adrenaline is high... you feel like a hero and you think you are invincible, on top of that let's add a gun. NOW you have a tactical advantage. I'm sure Martin, as young and knuckle headed as he might have been... the moment of seeing a gun, just like anybody else, would probably just give in, specially if we are talking about such close range, in this case anywhere from 0.5 centimeters to 1 meter. Was the gun holstered or was he gun in hand? Did Martin try to reach for it in an attempt to save his life? Now, we know that during a 911 call by another neighbor to report a fight between two men in her backyard, a loud terrified scream for help can be heard in the backyard. The scream ends suddenly with a loud gunshot that is followed by silence. ... Why would a man with a gun in his hand be desperately screaming for help and suddenly stop screaming at the precise instant the shot is fired? It just doesn't add up does it, now? This just proves, how flawed our justice system is. How messed up our society is, by looking at Ridley's comment. Either way, just by looking at the evidence... and by doing some analyses, you can tell this is all BS, BIG TIME BS. Zimmerman is at fault here. There is no need for vigilantes... even if he had permission to carry a gun, or if the dispatchers instructions weren't as clear as some claim them to be. There is no doubt he tried to play cop, ending in the death of a kid... BECAUSE YES RIDLEY unless you are 21, you are still a minor before the law... in this case ZIMMERMAN was not the law by any circumstances.
Surprisingly, especially with me being black and all, I'm not flipping mad that he was found innocent. I don't think justice was served, but the fact of the matter is that there was such little evidence, and of the evidence that was, much of it was circumstantial.
Pretty much. There wasn't enough to convict him, though many people think he should have gotten Manslaughter. This is a court of law, young man, not a court of justice. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr
Yeah, I think he should have gotten manslaughter, but at the end of the day, it's what the jury sees, the judge just acts as a mediator between the two parties
The thing that makes me so angry is not that there wasn't enough evidence to say he intentionally murdered travon. The issue is that when people of color act in self defense, the court always levies the maximum sentence upon them. In florida, if you show a gun in a fight, self defense or not, its a minimum of 10 years, if you shoot the gun its a minimum of 20 years, if you injure someone its a minimum of 25 years or life... but for some reason courts only bring up these rules if the victim is white or the person with the gun is black... this IS a race issue and if you don't see that you are blind to the reality of what is happening every single day; Travon is only 1 victim of many not receiving any justice.
Prime and rather recent example of this being poor Marissa Alexander, who for those who do not remember or know in the first place, fired a warning shot when she felt that her life was being threatened by her husband and got the minimum 20 years. 20 years because it was decided that she could have ran from her husband instead of shooting...What was stopping Zimmerman from doing the same, he didn't even have a good reason to follow him in the first place, given police backup was already enroute!...those who say that race play no part are definitely blind indeed.
It's basically the whole "Stand your ground" law that forced the jury into making the decision that it made.
His brother said Zimmerman should be wary of armed vigilantes. So...careful, George. Your shadow might kill you. This man took the law into his own hands and walked away. However...I don't think he was released totally unfair. Place yourself in the situation. He would be innocent had he not followed Martin against police orders.
If you trust the court system to put away criminals, you must also trust when they find people innocent. It is not about what Zimmerman did, it is about what you can PROVE he did. There is a reason the county prosecutor did not want to bring charges - they knew they had no case. Also, Stand Your Ground had NO bearing in his trial, he waved that hearing. He used the self defense defense statute. Florida Statue for Justifiable Use of Force. The prosecution could not prove otherwise. In the closing statements, the prosecutor was asking the jury to use their hearts and look past the evidence. Isn't that exactly what you are NOT supposed to do? Verdicts are based on evidence, not gut feelings. I want everyone to remain innocent until PROVEN guilty. Also, the ranting about trying to sue him? I hope they don't. It will get thrown out as frivolous - See here, the statute on immunity from civil prosecution when using self defense. Now, do I agree that Zimmerman should get jail time? Yes. Were both people involved acting stupid that night? Yes This never should have happened. It is a horrible tragedy and a minor is dead because of it. It was preventable. I want Zimmerman to be behind bars for ending Trayvon Martin's life. But, I understand how the law says he was not proven to be guilty of a crime. I hope Zimmerman's life is hard. I hope he never gets a good night's sleep. I hope he barely scrapes by in life and pays for the rest of his days for what he did.
He will undoubtedly suffer at the hands of society itself. He won't be able to leave without someone knowing who he is, and what he potentially did. He'll never be able to hold a stable job, because no employer wants George Zimmerman there. If he's lucky, he can just barely scrape by.
