Now then, those of you who know me probably know of my deep obsession with the Nintendo NES. So I figured, why not make a contest out of it for EP? Well, here it is. There are no specific skills required other than analyzing, though knowing the games may give you a little edge.

How to Play: There are several NES games I have chosen. Each game contains a clue to a special word. What I want is for you to give me that word here in the thread, and also an explanation of how you came to that conclusion.

Rules: None, really. Just post your answer here with your analysis. Whoever gets it right first wins. You may ask questions, and I will consider giving away little hints. Do not PM or Skype your answer. I don't want anyone thinking there's foul play.

Prize: Whoever gets the right answer first will receive $20 in the form of any gift card they choose, as long as I can get it, or I will buy and ship $20 worth of pony swag. The money has already been set aside for this contest.

    On to the video.

Good luck to all who attempt this, and try to have fun.

Oh yeah, just for those who don't know, here are the games used:

    Ninja Gaiden
    Tetris
    Megaman IV
    Metroid
    Castlevania
    Solar Jetman
    Kirby's Adventure
    Ghosts 'N Goblins

Update: I suppose I made this too difficult, so I'll give everyone a starting point. I asked for a specific word. Each level has a clue to 1 letter of that word. There's no point in focusing on more than one of the games at a time. Each letter can be found out by just analyzing each individual game. Hope this helps.

Wow, I am completely clueless. I should try later when I'm not at my bedtime, but I don't know if it will help.

Question: Is the clue for each game played tied to the same thing? Like what weapon is used through or something? Also, is what the clue ties in with related to what is in each gameplay clip or the game it's from in general?

No, but you're on the right track. The weapons in particular are important for a few of the games. I chose Metroid mostly because of the ice gun. Also, there are no clues involved with backgrounds. Most of the games have to do with the characters themselves, except the ones that don't have one.

Both. Only 1 of the games does it matter why I chose that specific one. I'll give a hint in the form of a question: Out of the game titles listed, which one has something that the others do not?

A couple other things. Metroid is the hardest. Kirby and Tetris are the easiest. The clues for Tetris and Kirby are very similar.

Ok, so I guess I'll lay out my thoughts here...

As far as weapons go, everyone but Simon and Ryu have projectile weapons, except for Tetris which doesn't have weapons.

In the clips you show, they all seem to be normal gameplay, except Kirby and Solar Jetman, where you used a minigame in one and password screen in the other.

Links between Kirby and Tetris would probably be reaction time, especially in that clip you showed of Kirby.

I can't think of anything else now... I'll have to come back to this...

Combined with the other clues, this should really make things much simpler.

If this is a word unscramble, I lost...

    - - Auto Merge - -

    sword
    line
    character
    bomb
    candle
    password
    quick draw
    red demon

slcbcpqr (1st letter of each word)
siablorn (1st word, 1st letter; 2nd word, 2nd letter; etc.)

Is this on the right track?

    My guess is: Nintendo

    Ninja = N (letter 1)
    Line = I (Letter 2)
    Man = N (Letter 3)
Statue (the Chozo) = T (etc.)
    ?
    ?
    Waddle Doo = D
    ?

Whether the above is correct or not:
    1) There's enough letters in word to build "Nintendo" (8 games means 8 letters).
    2) Contest is about the Nintendo Entertainment System.
    3) They all were published on the NES.
    6) moo

That's incorrect. However, your last post was surprisingly on the right track. Keep at it!

As I said before, every game represents 1 letter of the word. 8 games, 8 letters.

Update: I want someone to win already so here's a major clue.

Every game does represent 1 letter, but they are "encrypted" as numbers. I thought it was a simple thing, but then again, I didn't give much to go off of.

    ex: 1=A. 2=B, 3=C, etc.

Okay, that's WAY too hard. I would have never guessed that it's numbers that matter.
Now, even more hard, I need to figure out what the numbers are. It's so ambiguous to me. There are so many combinations.

    I just don't get it.

You should set a deadline for the contest, so it doesn't drag forever. Or give so many hints that somebody is bound to get it eventually.

The contest will end on the 31st. I'll give the hardest letter/number away.

Metroid is 7, which is G. If you figure out why, you should have a good chance at finishing the rest.

Nope. I figured people would be able to guess if they got 3 or 4 of the letters if I didn't scramble it.
