So, Nightmare Moon attempted to get rid of the Mane Six before they reached the Elements of Harmony. Discord attempted the exact same thing. At some point, Nightmare Moon tried to win over Rainbow Dash by having her join the Shadowbolts. Rainbow dash blatantly declines when she finds out she'd have to lose her friends for it. Discord took away her wings, and promised to give them back in return for disloyalty. Now this is only one example, but Discord succeeded in doing everything where Nightmare Moon failed horribly when you compare the two episodes. Nightmare Moon, L2P, lol! I officially vote Discord to be the more cunning villain! While he is generally a goofier character, he's also darker, and plays dirtier games than Nightmare Moon.
Both villians, both after the same thing, both locked up and plotting revenge for thousands of years... Yup, Nightmare moon failed terribly, but it may be because her heart wasn't truly in it. Although in the end, I'm slightly disappointed that Discord was able to trick the ponies so easily...
Also, might i add Princess Celestia "Nightmare Moon's a comin'? Lol, shut your pony mouth and go make friends!" "OMG Discord's back?! Get the fudge over to my place NOW!! :Trollestia:
Wait, you guys do know that It took both Celestia and Luna to take down Discord? Now now, Discord played with the small puny brains *evil laugher* of the ponies, unlike Nightmare Moon, whom took a much more "direct" approach. Of course by challenging and wrapping their minds that he's going to convince them. It's not like they didn't mentally break down a couple of times in season 1, no no. The whole main cast went insane in the season 1 at least once, or had a nervous breakdown. And i think the plot's gonna repeat itself - I think Luna and Celestia will save the day in the episode, not the main cast. Hopefully, that is.
Nightmare moon wanted night to rule over the land....sent to the moon... Discord wanted to destroy Equestria and make the lives of it's inhabitants a living he'll of misery and chaos....turned into a rather nice statue and placed in a lovely garden. By the way, my theory that Discord "stone prison" was a statue was correct! Yay!!!
Exactly my point. Discord already achieved more than Nightmare Moon and he's not even done yet. Besides, Nightmare Moon only wanted eternal night, which is something you can learn to live with if you really have to. Discord wanted misery and chaos all over Equestria which is generally a more evil plot. And the fact that it took both Celestia and Luna to imprison him just proves how much more dangerous he is. As a matter of fact, your post only further proves my point of how weak Nightmare Moon was as a villain.
I wouldn't be too sure about that. I'm not a psychologist or anything, but I'm pretty sure that if we were put under perpetual night, it'd have some psychological ramifications at some point. Not to mention agricultural and other consequences. The closest we can get to that in reality is by visiting the polar regions where night and day are about six months long each. As far as Discord vs. Nightmare Moon, it's too early for me to vote. We've only seen one part so far. He may have done "better" in the short-term, but we'll see how it pans out after this. Only then will I make my final decision.
I should note though that you CAN live with eternal night. It's just like being half-blind - nothing too bad. Hey, some people live as blind people.
Guys, you're missing the bigger picture here. With eternal night comes lack of sunshine and lack of daytime heating. If it were to continue forever, the ponies would freeze and die. I'm not talking about something as simple as just being "nocturnal." Also, before anyone says, "But ePONY, they could use their magic to warm up everything." Maybe, maybe not. Magic has its limitations. Furthermore, before anyone suggests non-magical ways for artificial heating of foods and things like that, I'm sure there are limitations there as well. Not to mention the possibility of running into some issues such as practicality.
Well they do have candles and possibly fireplaces... :derpe: So that is a source of heat to make them warm during the night.
You're missing my point once again. I'm talking about heating on a much larger scale. What good is that heating if all their food is gone?
I decline to comment. No WAIT! I don't decline. Let's play with that idea for a bit. They'd eventually die anyway because they'd run out of cupcakes and muffins to eat. Also, I don't think it'd be too healthy to eat only a diet of cupcakes and muffins. Also, the baking ingredients, where would they get them if the sources responsible for their existence disappear?
Well, you are applying realistic physics, scenarios and practicality to this situation. However, lets not forget that this is a world where ponies talk. They have trains, houses and kitchen appliances yet lack the hands (or opposable thumbs) to make or use any of it. They control the weather by kicking clouds. Oh yeah...and the ponies can talk. There are some major leaps in logic there, so applying logic to this scenario isn't logical. So, as it pertains to the world of MLP, endless night just means endless night. As in darkness.
As of right now I will vote Discord being a batter villain. Only because he made me actually mad at him for what he did. Being the bad guy means I shouldn't like him and plus nightmare moon really wasn't even able to so that much with her plan. Maybe she should have thought it out more.
