Personally, I find Discord's design to be absolutely fantastic. But I enjoyed reading your reaction. I, admittedly, almost had the same reactions. Except I never say Owned... Also, LOVE the Fire Emblem reference! Yune FTW!
Luna is on the moon. Again! Mwahaha...I can imagine Luna showing up maybe halfway in the new season. Also, all Discord did was turn everyone except Twilight to the opposite of their "said" element. So whatever the opposite of Laughter is that is what happened to Pinkie Pie, I wouldn't think she would of reverted to her old Pinkamena self Applejack probably was looking up somewhere else. Not exactly vertically up. Maybe. I'm going to rewatch the Episode on my DVR someday again. And, yeah...Pinkie Pie just wants some of that Chocolate Milk. _____________________________________________________ I kinda *facehoof'd* when I saw Rainbow Dash choose the option of playing the game still, or getting her wings back to go to Cloudsdale...maybe she flew to Cloudsdale to ask Derpy to defeat Discord with muffins...Who knows what will happen in the second part. The opposite of Pinkie's happy laughing self was her unhappy non-laughing self. Which is her "Pinkamena" self. Remember, in "Party of One" she was unhappy and angry. In this episode, Discord made her unhappy and angry. Therefore, it SHOULD have reverted her back into her "Pinkamena" self. The "Pinkamena" ponysona is the opposite of laughter. By the way, I'm putting it in quotes because I'm only using this instance to separate the entities even though, in reality, they're one in the same. I don't want anypony thinking that I'm giving into that way of thinking. It's just easier to say "Pinkamena" instead of "Unhappy Pinkie Pie" in which, the latter, is technically a more accurate description. There is the possibility that Discord may have been outside of Applejack's peripheral vision, but she does look upward toward the end of the scene, shortly before Discord turned her into a liar.
Well since they basically desaturated Applejack first, it basically happened to everyone else except Twilight. I'm pretty sure the people didn't know they could of made Pinkamena as her non-laughing self at that time.
I'm I the only one who finds it okay pinkie didn't go "pinkemena" I mean she did lose the element of laughter. In "party of one" she is unhappy because she thinks her friends don't like her anymore. Discord forces her to go to the opposite. So I don't think "pinkmena" applies in this situation. I find it acceptable that she stayed the same. You remember the swirly eyes, he corrupted Pinkie, she didn't bring it on herself. You weren't the only one, I was very upset with that part. Discord is many censored words.
This here shows it DOES apply. In this case, she was forced to go the opposite and thought her friends didn't like her, except in this case it was because she thought they were laughing at her, instead of avoiding her. The circumstances may have been different, but the emotions are similar. Also, you are not the only one that's glad she didn't go "Pinkamena." See?

That doesn't matter. If you made yourself angry, you'd be angry. If I made you angry, you'd be angry. You'd still be angry. The end result doesn't differ. In "Party of One," Pinkie's misunderstanding of the situation made her angry and upset. In this episode, Discord's powers made her angry and upset. The upset and angry version of Pinkie Pie is the supposed "Pinkamena" side, although, technically it's just an upset and angry Pinkie Pie. My point is this, it shouldn't matter HOW, but IF.
Discord alters the element of laughter, which I thought lived in the ponies. I guess that changed. I see it as, he changed the element of laughter and not Pinkie herself.. I'm sticking to that until next week. I just compared the clips, it seems different, Like it's an in between version. I do see your point though, but I won't accept anything until the next episode.

THEORY The Elements were never missing remember when Nightmare Moon "destroyed" the Elements? See how well that turned out? The mane six were able to defeat her because the Elements can't be destroyed because they live on in the Six. I think that it's very likely that they'll never need to recapture the Elements from Discord because they won't need to! Episode 2 will probably be about the six rediscovering their Elements. THEORY
It's Pinkie, ain't gotta explain nuttin'. I kid, perhaps it is in the method in which she became angry/depressed. In Party of One, Pinkie immediately entered a state of depression after being led to believe her friends had abandoned her. During this episode, she entered a state of anger after being led to believe her friends ridiculed her. Perhaps it is one of these factors that played a part. Also worthy of note is that Pinkie, or 'Pinkamena', did originally have a straight mane. She also lived a solitary childhood, or at least a dull and depressing one. During the party of one, she had the one thing she depended on to further herself away from her childhood taken from her, so she reverted back to it, i.e. her hair went back to being straight. Discord lied to Pinkie, and told her that her friends didn't just not want to be with her, but actually laughed at her. Being alone and devoid of parties is something familiar to Pinkie, but not being laughed at. She had nothing to resort to, so the hair didn't change. Just my theory, it holds no cannonical gravitas.
Ah, yes. That is true. Interesting theory. Well, we'll know for sure on the 24th. Once again, I think this shows that she should've reverted back. As I said, the method isn't what's important in my view, but the end result. Yes, Pinkie Pie did have her original straight mane as a filly and when she thought her friends had abandoned her, she reverted back to that part of her. In this case, Discord, with his powers, made her think her friends were laughing at her, but she was still upset. Upset at that her friends weren't laughing with her would make it seem that they weren't really good friends. As such, once again, it seems logical for her to revert back. Also, in "Party of One" I don't think it was being devoid of parties that caused the reversion. She said she was still going to have parties, remember? She just wouldn't invite them. Interesting conversation so far, everypony, but it still doesn't convince me that the "Pinkamena" reversion was not applicable. Even if he did just change her element only, that doesn't contradict what I've said so far. Element or not, if the end result was she was upset, the reversion should've still occurred.
I think they didn't do the Pinkamena hair because someone on the animating team saw Cupcakes related art and is probably still traumatized! But back to being serious, Luprony's idea sounds very plausible.
