How has the government shut down had an impact on you personally? Now, you could if you wanted to discuss what impact it could have on someone else or why it happened or something like that, but what I really wanna' know and why I started this thread is to find out how it does affect you, if at all. Just a question I'm interested in people giving their 2bits about...
I'm not worried. So what if the government has shut down? It's not like it worked in the first place.
Now now Ridley. A lot of parts of the government actually did work in the first place. A lot of groups, not normally associated with "government" were under the sections that have been shut down. I'm not sure which sections exactly, because I have a terrible memory and am not directly affected at all, but many people are actually affected.
Not at all. Pretty bad when your entire government shuts down and it makes no noticeable difference to anyone but tourists that are pissed the Statue of Liberty is closed.
I'm proud to be an American. I'm a patriot, and I always will be. I just wish that our elected officials would stop acting like a bunch of spoiled children!
Goood Gravity Gravy! Who the hell thought that was preferable to Health Care extensions? They've shaved off a little bit of the dollars worth and put thousands of people out of work because of that!
Welcome to America, the land of the free and unemployed. >.> Although to be fair, the new health care system really is pretty terrible... But to be fair-fair, the new health care system went into effect anyway, despite the shutdown...
It affects me almost nil. But it isn't about me, it is about the harm it is costing our nation. Here's my summary of these events: One small faction of an increasing backwards party(mostly because they keep trying to pander to said small faction, because they have the money) are shutting down the government, and ready to plunge the US into default, which has a pretty good chance of causing another 2008 style recession or even worse, and there wouldn't be any money to put a floor under that collapse because of the default, and the whole world will suffer massive economic harm because of about say 30-50 people in Congress refused to compromise over a bill that, at its very basis, is simply an insurance broker and introduces laws that basically take the whole "required car insurance" law and applying it to healthcare. - - Auto Merge - - Not to the government itself, but shaving that off of the economy.
I'm not affected, but I'm getting real tired of the pointing fingers and blame game. Seriously Congress, do your job....
It's made me watch C-Span more. I've gotten a good idea that some congressmen and congresswomen make sense and talk about the real issues and how stupid this is. Apparently, no one else in congress is listening to these people. I've also gotten a really good idea who no one should ever vote for. The rhetoric that comes from some of these people is such ignorant drivel it makes me wonder who would vote for these people in the first place? It's mind boggling. No, I'm not going to name any names, just watch for yourself; it's surprisingly informative.
Darn. How is it terrible? I thought Obama care would at least sorta be a good thing. Like, you'd no longer have to die because you can't afford surgery.
I don't think it's terrible. I get to stay on my parent's health care plan longer, and preexisting conditions can no longer be used to deny my little brother health care. I think that's pretty nice.
It is not terrible. It is much more socialistic than capitalistic, resulting in many Americans complaining that it will reduce their freedoms. Which it will. But capitalism is also cruel to the poor. This will benefit them. The argument for the other side is that it is more beneficial to the public as a whole. Which it is, in terms of universal healthcare availability. Not so much in terms of freedom. Pick your side. Both have valid points. Do you value liberty or security?
....How does a healthcare bill limit freedom? And I don't think the Affordable Care Act isn't the topic of this discussion, though it is related
