Hey guys, just got back from NY Comic Con '13. And I come bearing some news that ya'll in the merch collecting business might find interesting. Dog Tags: Unveiled at the con are new MLP:FiM collector dog tags. The dog tags come in two flavors, Deluxe and Blind Bag. The Deluxe ones were going for $8 at the con, they come in a blister pack (basically a clear plastic package with cardboard backing) and they include a metal dog tag with a ponies face engraved on it (basically black line art on a silver background) and their respective cutie mark on the back. I didn't get any pics but the lady selling them did let us feel one out of the package, and they're heavy. Not sure what it's made out of, but these things are pretty legit, they aren't chintsy crap or anything. Each dog tag comes with an attached necklace and a mini dog tag that have different designs on them. The second variety is blind bag and they sold for $3 each. The package will have a random ponies face on it and is about the same size as a normal blind bag foil pack. Inside is a single dog tag that is significantly thinner than the deluxe ones but they are in full color. The package also includes a small booklet thing that shows you all the available dog tags, a set of 3 temporary tattoos (mine has Rarity, Opalescense and Rarities cutie mark - even though the dog tag I originally got was Pinkie Pie) and a sticker. The sticker I got is of the stained glass window picture of the capturing of Nightmare Moon by the Elements of Harmony that you see inside Celestia's Palace. **NOTE: There are also 8 RARE metallic dog tags you can find in the blind bags, they're all black with the ponies face done in silver line art. They're pretty awesome looking. As luck would have it, they were offering to let us swap dog tags with a few that were laying on the table if we didn't like the one we got, and I asked to swap but there weren't any to swap with. So he opened one and by chance it was a rare metallic Twilight Sparkle, which he let me swap for. ^.^ All available Dog tags Blind Bag Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Spike, Celestia, Trixie, Queen Chrysalis, Discord, Soarin' & Spitfire, Nightmare Moon, Princess Cadence & Shining Armor, Hoity Toity, Lyra Heartstrings & Bon Bon, Berry Punch, FIM (letters), The Alicorn Amulet (symbol), The Wonderbolts, Starswirl the Bearded (twilight in halloween costume), Cutie Mark Crusaders, Nightmare Night, Unnamed Pony (Derpy), Princess Luna. **Those are the names THEY used, straight off the list on the booklet. So apparently Derpy is now officially called "Unnamed Pony" and Lyra and Bon Bon's fan given names have been officially recognized. You win some you lose some I guess. Rare Metallic blind bags Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Princess Luna and FIM (letters). Deluxe Tags Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Princess Luna, DJ Pon-3, Unnamed Pony (derpy). Mini Tags (that come with the deluxe tags) Twilight sparkle (pink), Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Princess Luna, FIM (black with holographic letters). That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge as to what they offer. Pictures! Spoiler: Booth table (blind bag dog tags) Spoiler: The tag I got (Rare metallic Twilight Sparkle) plus tattoos and sticker Spoiler: The back of my tag Spoiler: Booklet showing all the blind bag dog tags Spoiler: Other side of booklet showing all rare metallic tags More news! Also at that booth was a new MLP:FiM trading card game, and they had tables and chairs set up to let people try it. We had other stuff to see so I didn't get to try it or look too closely at the cards, but they basically use the same format as pokemon and yu-gi-oh cards, with a picture on the top and their moveset on the bottom. This is different than the collectors cards you are probably familiar with, because like the pokemon trading cards, you battle each other with them. All this stuff is officially licensed by Hasbro and is manufactured by EnterPlay, and I believe it will hit stores in the next couple months. ***Sometime later in the week I'm going to make a blog post that details my time at NYCC '13 that will have lots and lots of pictures of everything from merch, to cosplay, to art prints. Oh yeah, and there'll probably be some pictures of me too. So stay tuned ^.^
Good stuff and thanks. I look forward to collecting the dog tags. The card game is coming out this November and you try to solve problems to win. I actually printed out proxies xD Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk - now Free
*Sees title* *Gets excited* *Clicks link* *Is met with this terrible sight*; Spoiler *Sadface* Oh, Sixthform filtering. Not even my freedoms can get past this right now- I'll have to re-check at home.
OH so that's the point of the game? I didn't get a chance to get the details on it, although I had a hunch that the objective was different than battling to defeat the other players cards like pokemon or magic. Still, it woulda been cool if it was...
Yeah it would go against the message of the show. I have two questions for you though about the dog tags. 1.) Are the sizes any different? 2.) If not what are the sizes (in inches, please)? So I can buy some binder sleeves for them (9 or 18 pocket). Thank you soooooo much for this thread! Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk - now Free
Found this on EqD earlier; Woo, go availabilty and stuff! Those Dog Tags look pretty cool- Might get some shipped over, when I've some pounds spare...
You're welcome ^.^ The blind bag tags and the deluxe dog tags are the same size, although the deluxe tags are thicker. I'd say the deluxe tags are about 1/16th of an inch thick, the blnd bag tags are about half that. As for length, they are 2 inches long and I'd say about an inch wide. I couldn't tell you how big the mini tags are though, since they only come with the deluxe tags and I didn't get one of those, but I'd say they are maybe 1/3rd to half the size of the full size tags.
These have officially came out!!!!! I bought 3 yesterday and ran out of money I hid a deluxe rage set of Dashie and Pinkie Pie. Imma coming back for that Now all I need is a digital scale >=)
The rare ones (black backgound, silver design) are only sold in blind bags. So there's no real way to get the one you want unless its already been opened. So...eBay would be my first guess. You can also try ToyWiz.com, I know they sell blind bag pony figures individually and unwrapped, so maybe they do the same with the dog tags.
